Comments:

thinking of vector diagrams to use with the current definitely helped; so many people drifted off-course!
Transition 1
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

feet were numb! had to dismount, pull one shoe out of the pedal, put it on, and then remount the bike on a hill! much time was lost!
What would you do differently?:

not start with shoes clipped in if I'm doing a cold water swim (maybe practice with numb feet in the future...)

Comments:

lots focus, and started feeling fatigued on the return trip
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

spent too much time racking bike
What would you do differently?:

mentally practice/rehearse transitions before race start

  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

felt very strong! passed 5 of the strong cyclists; finished w/ a sprint
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

fatigue from last weekend's HalfMax race; poor sleep the night before at a campsite; stress; poor focus, bad nutrition during training in the weeks prior; MAINLY MY OWN FAULT FOR POOR MENTAL FOCUS AND ATTITUDE.

Event comments:

fun race, very pricey though, and too much traffic on the bike course

Wow, you finished 4th with all those problems!?!  Congratulations for that.  I was 235 after a great night's sleep and few problems.

I watched the first wave go out, then watched them all undershoot the first buoy by miles, then struggle back against the 4 knot current.  I'm certainly not judging, but I would have thought most of them should know about such things.  Fortunately I was able to learn from their mistakes and got around the buoy.

Seems to me like you have a very bright racing future in front of you.  Nice work.
