Do you even find that tv watching promotes snacking?  I've got to get over that psychological association.

This week my husband and I are cutting out all junk food (well, except for last night, ahem). I am also eliminating all wheat and dairy.  I am nursing and wheat and dairy seem to be really tough on my baby's digestive system, I'm guessing both baby and I will see benefits.

try a sugar-free popsicle. My wife and I love those at 10:30 at night while watching TV together to wind down the day before bed. Satisfies your junk-food craving and the calories and carbs are negligable at best.

I bite my nails.  They're low cal and high in fiber.  Seriously, I usually do that light microwave popcorn and eat them one at a time.  It tastes decent and gives your mouth something to do while you take in the show.  Just don't go through too many bags or you'll be in the bathroom all night.

mmm.... popsicles...  and I just heard about smart popcorn that has like 12 grams of fibre per bag (NOT that I should eat a whole bag!).Wink

and this is just too much, my husband went out and a friend bought him chicken wings! And he brought home the leftovers.  MAN!  And they were sweet with cajun heat!! So I ate 4.  I think wings are like 100 cal each and 50% fat.  lovely.  I guess we start tomorrow... again!

i'm going to make some popsicles with inulin (prebiotic fibre) right now.

oh boy - apple turnovers.... how did that work out for you?

pumpkin pie, now that is a slippery slope, cause pie likes ice cream. If you just have the pie, you'll be ahead of the game.  I make pumpkin custard (basically pie with no crust) that is nice to add to the oven with your pie - that way, your second slice (the next day of course Smile) can be lower fat!

Fruit is your friend.  I always keep a large supply of grapes on hand for TV-watching.

I snack on frozen fruit when I watch TV in the evening.  I'm partial to the bags of mixed fruit - grapes, pineapple, peaches, & mango.  Not only is it healthy, but the fact that its frozen means I can't eat too much.

Not necessarily late night, but mindless potato chip eating has been my weakness.

I help cure with dark chocolate -- the higher the percentage cocao, the better. I eat only one or two squares and let each small bite melt in my mouth slowly. Oh, it's divine!

Worked out ok. I ate one bite. Then my parents who were visting form out of town (who brought all these tasty treats here) took them with them back home. I don't keep ice cream or snacks in my house except fruit for this reason. I know I am weak. Even when I bake I have to give my pies and cakes away to keep me from eating them all.

Try substituting the food craving with a glass of water...

water with lemon or cider vinegar (both are non-acid forming, and are good for you) is nice and makes drinking water easier.  I fill a pitcher at the beginning of the day and aim for it to be gone by bedtime.

carbs are a nighttime hound searching me out.... I tried making oatmeal tonight - attending to the carb desire without the salt, fat, or sugar.

I crave milk at night. I will just keep walking into the kitchen without even thinking about it and I find myself looking at the milk. But I have ulcers and milk is one of the only things that calms the acid down at night. I get low fat and sometimes skim but I don't know if I should be drinking it late. I always feel bad when I do.

Is milk realy bad for me at night?

Chilli popcorn is good. But more than 6 chillies is waaaay too much, I've just discovered.

But I've taken up cross stich and jigsaws at night, cos you can't snack at the same time.

That must be really hard - I had a similar kind of pain while preggers and cannot imagine it every night. If it helps you sleep... others might chime in, but I am wondering about planning for a glass of milk at night when wanted (considering what you eat the rest of the day/evening)? Is it late night eating or what and how much we eat at night?

I hav a glass of skim/low fat milk most nights during the week.. in fact I go one further and drink it through a flavoured kids straw which is only about 20 calories but gives me a bit of sugar hit too.

Id say as long as its within your calories for the day why not? For me it stops the dessert craving as well as getting some much needed calcium as Ive never been a BIG dairy fan in the past (unless its in chocolate of ice cream form).

This way Im not having something unhealthy (like an entire block of cadbury chocolaye - yes Ive dont that in the past) and actually having something my body NEEDS on a regular basis - I look at it as win win!

With you finding it calms your stomach I would think that it would be a similar situation so I say just go for it, just watch your overall intake to make sure the glass of milk is planned fo in your day!

Yes & Yes.

This week my husband and I are cutting out all junk food. I am also eliminating all wheat and dairy.

I eat a mostly gluten free diet.  Not because I have to, but as I've cut out processed foods, it seems that's the way it is.  Ezekiel bread is a staple in my diet.  I buy it in the Organic freezer section of my grocery store.  I also don't eat dairy.  Find other sources for calcium.  I feel really good when I eat this way, so I hope it works for you!
