My tri bike has about 4,100-4,200 on it; my road bike I think has about 5,500.

Roughly estimated:

  • >12K miles on my road bike (Litespeed Tuscany)
  • >10K miles on my older road bike that the new one replacedm (Specialized Allez)
  • >1K miles on the tri bike that I put into service this year (Litespeed Blade)
  • >2.5K on the tri bike I sold () when I got the new one (Cervelo Dual)

All since, oh, March 2002.

I've got 502 miles  on my old roadie.  I put those on since late last year, but before me it was a trainer bike for a friend who ran Iron distance races, so it prolly has an actual miles far greater than I can imagine.

Easy answer:  not enough.

Out of curiosity, I did a rough calculation of how many miles I put on my first commuter bike.  From 1978-1995 I commuted around 10 miles a day, 5 days a week, 40 weeks a year on the same crappy Raliegh "10-speed" (as we called it then -- two on the front and 5 on the back), so I guess it had around 35K on it when it was retired.

Just a quick plug for my dad, hes not on this site but I've always been amazed at how someone can ride as much as he does. Hes is nearing 60 years old and has been riding roughly 30-50 miles every single day for the last...well I dont even know how long. Quite possibly 35-40 years.

His last bike had over 35,000 miles on it, and since his retirement his new bike is amounting miles very quickly. I am 24 years old and cannot even come close to keeping up to him..haha

Kudos to your Dad!

I bet he is a big inspiration for you.

Wow, you made me go back and look at my logs (even my pre BT logs), I bought my Specialized Allez Elite late in 2004 for my first Olympic Tri. 4+ seasons later it has taken me through 9 HIMs, coming up on my 3rd IM, and over 15,000 miles.
Not bad for a $700 dollar close out deal as the next year's models were coming in.
