Registration starts tomorrow! Does anyone know if or when this race fills up? I don't really have alot of extra $$$, would like to hold off registering.

Usually stays open for a few months, but seems to be filling faster each year.  I never did the race, but the course is spectacular.  Yes, the swim was very shallow..but I got an email from RD that said they got permission to re-route the swim course and it's now in a 30' deep channel.  I'm hoping to do the race in '09, but usually a pretty decent BT showing.

Do a search of the NY forum and Race Report forum.

Maybe see you in July '09.

I'm definitely in for '09.  This will be my first HIM.  I've also heard that the swim was shallow, but that it is better for the half than the sprint--even better if they change the course.  The bike and the run look to be just the right mix of challenge with scenery.  I can't wait!!

It's a great race. Extremely well run, beautiful bike and run courses, the community support is deep. It will fill up.  As it's reputation is growing every year,  the question is "when?".

I'll be returning this year to take my revenge on the run course because of what it did to me in 2006. The new swim course will be nice. Having to slog through 100 yards of thigh deep water at the end of the swim can take a lot of you.

BeginnerTriathlete has sponsored and run the aid stations on the run courses for the Mini-Mussel and ITU pro race on Saturday for the past 2 years. I expect we'll be doing it again.

Dream Chaser - 2008-11-20 12:00 PM How long is the drive from Manhattan to Musselman?

Google maps has it at 310 Miles,  I'd guess about 5 hrs.  The last hour will be the best, but I'd avoid the Thruway and come into Geneva from the south..the scenery along the Finger Lakes is spectacular.  I booked it last year as a destination race, but never did the race, yet vacationed in the area anyway and it was a great area for a family vacation.  Lots to do, but those that train in the area must be part Billy-goat....

I've yet to hear a bad thing about this race, and hopefully I'll do it in 2009, if not I'll volunteer at the very least.

I did this race last year (2007) as my first half IM it was a very organized and well run race and they give you a lot of nice things compared to the NAS races for less money. If you are travelling without the whole family I would reccomend staying in the "athlete village" (college dorms). $30 a night can't be beat these days. This race definitely helped me become addicted to longer races culminating in IM Lake Placid a few months ago. Highly recommended!

Loved this race, despite the fact that I fell 4 feet from the finish line Very well run, nice prizes and beautiful bike course. The run was hillier than I expected. I love the finger lakes region. Make sure you go wine tasting and hiking in the gorges while you're there!

SweetK - 2009-01-06 4:00 PM I was registered for the HIM but due to injury I will not be racing However, I will be there volunteering!

The way her recovery is going she should be ready !!

I'll be jockstrapping this year but this race is absolutely a must do race. I rank it right up there with IMWI as my all time favorite race. The weekend in Geneva is a triathletes destination vacation. Where else can you see or do a sprint race, see Olympians race an ITU draft legal race then wake up the next morning and see or do a 1/2 IM that touches the shores of 2 of the NY Finger Lakes!!

Last year I did my first sprint at Musselman then volunteered for the HIM the next day...it was such a rush I went out and registered for an ironman.  This year I'll be doing the double mussel. (sprint saturday then 1/2 iron distance Sunday)  I can't wait for the food at the end!  This is a really beautifyl race venue and it is well run by nice people.  See you all there!

I signed up a few weeks ago, it'll be my only Half this year! I'm driving up from Philly with a stop in NYC on the way!!

From those who have races, what's a good wheelset for the Half? HED 69 set up? or a H3 front and Jet Disc?

Input please!! Also I will be bringing up wheelsets to rent out if via Echappe anyone is interested, you can just shoot me a PM

Hi, guys!  I hope everyone's training is going well.

I have the next couple of Wednesdays and Thursdays (not this week but the following two) open and was thinking of heading over to Geneva to ride the course.   It would have to be in the morning because I have to be home in Syracuse by 4 to get my son off the bus.

Anybody interested in joining me?

So, my husband and I went out last week to ride the course.  It was very windy and hot the day we rode, and I felt like the life got sucked out of me!!

The course, though, was very beautiful and not too hard, which is nice.  Some of the roads were very rough, especially that little trek through Sampson State Park (what's that all about?).  My favorite part was the stretch alongside Cayuga Lake.  So beautiful and the breeze from the lake was nice and cool.

Can't wait for the race...less than two months!!
