Subject: B2B 2009 Registration

I have been thinking about do the Half B2B in 2009.

They now have registration set for Dec 1st. Ho wquick do you think the Half will sell out? I want to register but am nervous. I have only ever don e1 sprint tri and that was 5 years ago. Will I be able to wait much past Dec 1st to register?

 Thanks for any advice.

Last year it took about 12 days to fill up, and that was for an inaugural year.

I understand they are bumping up the registration by 50%, but it would be my expectation that it will fill up faster than last year. The race has gotten many positive reports on a lot of the forums. If you want to make this your race, you probably better be ready to sign up on day 1. On the other hand, there are tons of half IMs out there that don't fill up so quickly.

As for if you'll be ready, you have almost a year to get ready. You say you haven't done a race in 5 years but what is your fitness level?

Ironmouse

Thanks for your input. I have seen the reports, including yours. Conratulations on your finish. I guess I will have to register and that way I will have to make it happen next November.

I will obviously do some races before then. I am not in much shape. I got a bike in October and I have just started running 20 minutes at a time. I am not to worried about being able to complete the distance. I come from an extensive running background going back about 10 years so hopefully it will come back to me pretty quick. My problem is that I still think the same way as 10 years ago and obviously I am older, more creeky and have less time on my hands than 10 years ago, so competing at that level will not happen. I have to figure out where I am at and what I might be able to do now days.

I think I will just have to pull the trigger come Dec 1st and make the B2B my 1st registered race.

Are you going to go back next year?

The race went really well this year and I think it will sell out fast...definately sign up as soon as you are able! It'll give you some incentive once you're signed up! Good luck!

Thanks grkid. I'm not sure about next year. If it were up to me I would do it again, but Mrs. Fatmouse would probably disown me. So, I'm considering doing the half in 2009, or possibly just going down there to volunteer on race day.

If you've got a running background you should be fine. You didn't mention your swimming skills. Get that base fitness level going as quickly as possible before building up to distance.

I'll also recommend the Triathlete Magazine book of training plans. They have a batch of 20 week plans for various levels of training from just wanting to finish to going for hardware. I used that for the full distance and it really helped.

Swimming. I would have to swim in the Half Iron. Hmmmm that changes things.

Joking aside. My swimming will be the worst leg of any race I do. That is part of the reason for wanting to do B2B, so I can get the help from the salt water, the wetsuit, and the tide. I started swimming some 0 - 1650 in 6 weeks thing a few weeks ago. I was about to start week 5 (1600 yards) and I hurt my neck, so that has had me out of everything for the last 3 weeks. I might need to start over again. Having gotten up to 1600yards in 5 weeks I know I can go the distance by next November, it is a matter of how fast I can go.

Hopefully you can get to do something there next year, maybe we can bump into each other in the Half, although being that I am in Raleigh we might get to meet at some other event before that.

Thanks for your insight.

Registration will be Jan 2 (ish). The race schedule will be announced by December 1. So you have another month to decide.

B2B opens up seperately from the series. Registration opens for B2B on Dec. 1st. That is the same day the schedule should be up for Setup's series (How do you make series plural?).
