Hmmm... after writing this all down, I think I have a racing addiction -  19 Races ... I don't want to even pretend to add up the entry fees   And I was supposed to run the Philadelphia Marathon but got injured.  In 2009 I plan to race a little less... maybe

4 - 5k's

1 - 4-miler

2 - 10k's

2 - Half Marathons

4 - Tri Sprints

3 - Olympics

2  - Half Ironman's

jacasa - 2008-12-02 6:14 PM 2008 was my first year of competing in tri's and road races. Prior to 1/13/07 I was an overweight 46 year old lazy bum. Now I am a half way in shape 48 year old bum. This was my first year of running, biking and swimming in races. Here is what I did: 4 sprint tri's 1 half marathon 1 10K run 1 5 mile run 2 4 mile runs 3 5K runs My goal for 2009 on top of some sprints and road races, my two goals are: Run a marathon (either the New York or the San Antonio) Sprint tri (without stopping for one single second on the swim)! How about you? How did '08 go? What are you planning for '09? P.S. - '08 is not quite over and I may run in a Jingle Bell 5K! P.S.S. - BT was a HUGE help in getting me prepared for and getting through these races. THANKS!

Congratulations on your 2008 accomplishments!  This multi-sport thing is a fun way to stay in shape and keep the weight off.  I am about the same age as you are although I've been doing this thing for a while.  First marathon was in 1987...first triathlon was in 1988.  After getting married, having a couple kids and changing careers I let myself go for a few years and put on over 50 pounds!  I've dropped about half of that since getting consistant again with training in 2003/2004.  I don't think my wife would be happy with me if I dropped back to 150 pounds (I'm 6') so I think I'm happy with the weight I am now.  Although I think I would be a better climber and runner if I did loose all the weight.

In 2008 I finished 1-sprint, 1-olympic, 1-1/2 IM distance, Pikes Peak Ascent and a 5K.  I'll be doing my first, and probably the only, iron distance race in 2009.  I'll probably incorporate a couple other tri's as training in preparation.  I would like to do the Ascent again but I don't think I'll be able to get it in.

They say if you write a goal down, you're more likely to accomplish it.  If  you write it down over and over again, you continually renew your goal and increase the possibility of accomplishing your goals.  Good Thread OP!

An Oly and three sprints...moved from the BOMOP to the FOMOP! Did a 5k with my entire family, as well as numerous rides. My son did his first two kids tri's. My son and daughter both run from time to time, even with an occasional BRICK. I talked my wife into a road bike, which she now loves to ride. She and I both did our first Century rides.

09

I'd really like to place in my AG next year, which will be aided in USAT races by getting faster as well as moving up to a new group. Another Century will be great, and both my kids will be old enough for the kids' tri's next year. I can't wait until the snow melts! Boooo hooooo hooooo hoooo!

08:  one half mary (hilly trail), one HIM (hilly hell), one Oly (pancake flat except the surf in the Pacific), one almost HIM (1/35/10, hills), one sprint (more hills), first marathon cancelled at 4 am race day due to SoCal fires

09:  still planning -- maybe one HIM, one IM, one oly, one sprint, 2 centuries, one HM, and other assorted fun and games... it is so nice to be healthy!

'08... The year I wish I could pretend didn't happen... Really haven't run since early March. Haven't been riding for the last month. Foot surgery in July (the reason I wasn't running after March). I've "started over" twice already since September, and am having a lot of problems with recurring calf strains. I'm almost ready to hang it up entirely.

'09? Hmm... I'd love to say I'll be doing X and Y races, but really I'm just hoping I can train. Yeah, I can ride. Maybe I'm going to turn into the guy that volunteers at the races (with my motorcycle endorsement, I can ride course motor). My original plan going into THIS year was to go to USAT Nationals and then jump up to half-IM in '09. Well, that got scrubbed pretty much with the first calf strain when I resumed running in September. So I really don't know.

2008

Bought a bike in April, did a Tri in June on a whim.  Got the bug for SBR.

No top 10's or even close, but I did loose 40lbs Sealed

Now waiting for MRI results, get them on the 15th at 3:20pm.

2009

16 more pounds

Swimming events without being the almost last guy out of the water

Continuing on showing my daughter if you put you mind to it and try anything is possible.

4 races picked out depending on what is wrong with knee and my employer does not go Bankrupt!
