Total Time = 1h 15m 21s
Overall Rank = 59/205
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 13/37
Pre-race routine:

Woke at 5AM and had coffee, half a bagel with peanut butter and honey and a banana. I would have finished the bagel, but it tasted like meat, and that's just not right.
Event warmup:

I swam 2 laps in the pool, mainly because it was much warmer than the ambient temp. They made us get out and wait about 15 minutes, wet. That's when my warmup backfired. My second warmup consisted of me shivering a lot.
Swim
  • 06m 36s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

First face-kick, goggle knocked off, in lap 2. That was exciting. Otherwise, I started in the 7-minute group, so I passed 4 people before it was over. I had a great swim. I think those 100's are paying off.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Ran past my bike rack, kept on running, just never saw my bike. Came back and looked and looked. It was comical. I need a brightly-colored towel.
Bike
  • 39m 24s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.93 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a good bike, took 8 minutes off the last time I did this course. I can't complain, but I would love to get above 20mph avg. It's not much of a hill, but it's enough to bring me to a slow crawl.
Transition 2
  • 37m 69s
Comments:

Good transition, nothing exciting.
Run
  • 26m 46s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

This one wasn't so good. I was hoping to break 25 on this. I really thought I could. Maybe I left too much on the bike, maybe I'm just not there yet. The weather was perfect for it, but that long hill just made me suffer. I had a stitch in my side the whole run leg. It was about 1 mile before my legs felt normal to run, and they were still really heavy and slow.
What would you do differently?:

I am going to add more bricks, more bricks, and more bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

I loitered around the pool and watched the women stand around in swim-suits, getting ready to race. I watched the women's T1 and some bike laps. Then I went to the finish to watch Sally, riorio, finish. Way to go Sally!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of make go run fast.

Event comments:

I like this race. The Anthem Community Center is nice, but the staff acts like triathletes have the plague. I'm sure they have a business to run, but it's just a bit odd the way they make you sign in to watch the race (after you just ran it) and use a separate door.

Awesome job Chad!!!  Many comical statements, and the use of a few large words. Impressive! Hahaha!!  You are right......that "hill" is not THAT huge, but it does sap ya!  The key is just hammering it when you get to the top.  Looks like I need to bring you a balloon to tie to your rack. Just keep up the nice training, and you will see improvement at each race!

Great race Chad- next time start farther up in the swim, you are super speedy!!! Looks like a solid race all around, I was hoping for a faster bike time but that course is hilly and the 3 loops mean you hit the long hill more, it makes the run all that more challenging.

Thanks for saying Hi at the finish- it was great to see you out there. Well done!

Great race Chad, even if you push a little hard on the bike it's still a great training day!
