Subject: Gatorskins for racing????

So last year, I was really just trying to finish the tri's that I entered......

This year, I don't expect to be winning my age group but like most of us, I want to do the best I can.  I have gatorskins on my road bike.

Will putting on a "race" tire like the proraces make any noticable difference for sprint and olympic distances?

I am guessing, probably not.  I am thinking that if I could ride in the drops more, that would have much more impact..... but the question still applies.

Assuming you already have clipless pedals and shoes, the next step would be aerobars and learning how to ride/handle your bike evenly and well with them.

The really big thing is T.I.T.S.--time in the saddle. Until you put lots and lots of that in over a few years, any other innovations aren't going to make that much of a difference.

I raced my first 18 mos. with Gatorskins and was very happy with them. High quality, durable, no flats.

I wrote about this last spring:

The bottom line though is that the less power you produce, the more you stand to gain (as rolling resistance is taking a larger percentage of your power).  Like it says in the post, a cyclist who is putting out 150W could see a 2km/h increase if they select a tire with lower rolling resistance.

The best part about going to a tire like the PR3's (or 2's if you can find them) is that they are a great everyday tire (even with butyl tubes) and they seem to last forever.
