Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6:30, had coffee, a bit of a corn muffin thingy and two sips of water. I only slept about 4.5 hours. I was beat. I met jmk-brooklyn (Jonah) at a Starbucks on the upper east side for some pre-race caffeine.
Event warmup:

Nada. We walked from Starbucks to the start, checked our bags and reluctantly stripped off the warm clothes. The start gun went off while we walked to the start area.

Comments:

I had no idea what to expect. I had a sleepless night with shoulder pain and it was just frigid. I hit Mile 1 at 8ish despite Harlem Hill and decided to just go for it. I had a slow mile 2, then incredibly good splits for the remainder of the race. I had a few miles sub-8, including my last at 7:38 and the final .2 done at a 7:07. I realized I was going to make sub-50 for the first time so I went for it. I barely made it and almost puked, but I was really proud of myself. I've barely run since the marathon and still did my absolute best. This beat my PR set during the NYC Tri.

What would you do differently?:

Not much. Maybe sleep or eat before the race? This was a marathon qualifier for me so I was just there to finish. But it turned out to be a great race.
Post race
Warm down:

I thought I might throw up at the end so I paused for a bit until I was screamed at and told to move on. I grabbed a water and an apple and thought of 2Goggs :) My apple stayed down though. I immediately went to baggage to put on every layer I'd brought with me and somehow managed to stand 10 feet away from Jonah while we waited about 10 minutes to find each other. Oops. Hopped on the subway and went out for the biggest breakfast known to man.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I just need to start running more consistently.

Event comments:

Only one more race to go and I'm in the NYC Marathon again next year, which should be a barrel of fun after finishing (hopefully) my first Ironman.

Sorry I missed you standing there. I was looking everywhere for your red jacket and you were all dressed up like a Ninja Triathlete.

Great race. and congrats on the PR. I tried vainly to keep you in sight but I lost you after mile 2 or so. That was fun. See you Saturday!
