did this one last year (olympic distance). Very similar to deer creek (and to other HFP events). State park lake. Swim is double 750 rectangle for olympic. The bike was a single loop if I recall correctly with a grumpy hill in the middle of it. The sprint and oly people ride together a litttle way then sprint breaks off and does a smaller loop. The run was a 3.1 mile out and back (double for OLY). The thing about the run was it was primarily on grass/dirt and gravel. It was almost a trail run. I liked it because I like running in nature as opposed to blacktop but I know alot of people grumble about those things. Nothing special but a good basic race in an easily accesible location.

VERY high traffic road (SR 73) with almost no bike course support.

EVERY year there are complaints from people who are on the Olympic and do the Sprint and on the Olympic and do the Sprint as the split is not well marked.

not disrespect meant, but if you miss that split you are not riding safely.

there are 4 signs on the road about 4-6 feet tall and bright yellow, and bright pink, two signs ont he side of the road, and people there.

that is because people dont look at things like course maps, road markings, signs, etc.

people also draft, crash, and dont stay right.

if there needs to be more markings than that something else is at work there.

i watched two people go off course on an out and back course this season, all on the same road, they turned the wrong way with a cop yelling at them. it happens.

Well also, since the courses never change people should know from year to year exactly what to do----

from Cliner9

I am going to agree with RBowersock here. I missed the Oly loop at Buck Creek last year as the turn was on the road and not very clear. I heard several folks complain after the race. Overall though HFP runs good fun races at a good price

Why do you think HFP took their forum down?

I did a brick on this route this morning.  The sprint bike route was pretty easy except for the section on 73 where it is 2 lanes with 55mph traffic and no shoulder and one pothole on said shoulder.  When cars would swing left to go around us the oncoming cars would honk at them.  The part of 73 with 4 lanes divided, was fine with a huge shoulder to boot.

The running part is just as said:  gravel, soft asphalt and dirt.  There are several opportunities to choose the wrong path.  Speaking from experience Embarassed

The Cincy Express tri group meets most Saturday mornings from here out to do various routes.  We had a group do the sprint loop slowly (my group!) and several others head out for a 3hr ride.

If you go now, the beach house and its bathrooms are still closed but there's a port-a-potty at the Youth Pond on the same access road.
