Nothing to register but the race is somewhere around $375. Expensive but totally worth it! A beautiful, challenging, well organized race that you definitely have to do before that big tri in the sky.
Go to tricalifornia.com and follow the alcatraz links - you may be able to put your name in for the Feb. drawing but Im not sure...

I'll probably get in this year, only because I really can't afford to go.

The first drawing will take place on December 15.  Results will be posted online December 16.  If you were selected, you will also receive an email with registration instructions.  You must register and pay by January 9.  All those not selected will be automatically entered in the second drawing to take place Feb 1.

please, please, please, let me get a spot this year.  Last year?  No joy...

However, since I tried last year, they sent me a reminder for this year, which proved priceless.  I probably would have forgotten, otherwise....

This one is one of my 'long term' goals in my logs....  It would be nice to cross it off the list.

The best advice I got about this race was from Tom Demerly… I might butcher it a little but it went something like “you are not going to win this race, but take a moment and enjoy it” and he was right.  I stopped in the swim for a few and just soaked it up. AMAZING race and I think that everyone should do it once.

It can't be. My calendar says it's today. I live by what's on that calendar. How can it be wrong (Just a little high anxiety).

Not bad advice.  IF I get in, I may keep my head up a little and soak it in.  Not try for any land speed records...  There are plenty of other races to do that...

I've heard people say that whether you're racing or not, you should stop half way across and check out the view of the city and the bridge. I'll do this swim some day.
