My confirmation email states:

Please visit the website www.escapefromalcatraztriathlon.com on December 15, 2008 and February 15, 2009 for a list of names selected in the random drawings.

Well I keep going and nothing! It seems they may not post it until after midnight, but I think in reality they will not post the results until after I go to bed, whatever the time. So just to help all you guys out I'm going to bed. That way at least some of you may learn today if you made it in or not. For me It'll have to wait until tomorrow.

 Good Luck

So I was showing my wife this Tri last night and i was saying how the lottery was happening now etc etc and how next year I want to at least try to get in as my training will def. be good enough for that one. THen my wife said, isn't there alot of sharks right around there?(she studies sharks as she loves them and is a science lady)
I said hmmmm i don't know but i think no one has ever been attached so were good? she's like as long as you promiuse me you will stay in the middle hahaha I said i would tri my best if i got into it.
So......has anyone ever seen one of our finned friends while doing it or heard any stories, i think it adds flair to the race especially it being from alcatraz and whatnot, my wife did not agree.

Oh come on. I went to bed just to help this along, and now wake up to find that there are still no results. I did my part.

As for sharks, no I've never heard of any problems, but you can bet  there are scores of people who have been injured while driving to the event over the years. Maybe even a death. I wonder if sitting in the middle seat reduces the risk of injury?   :-)

no sharks - last year the race was held about 2 or 3 weeks after a baby whale had wandered into the bay and eventually got helped back out into the ocean....there are 2 ton sea lions that are there and aren't too friendly but I haven't heard of any sea life interfering with the racers. You should be more wary of the sharp turns at the bottom of screaming downhills on the bike

im laughing pretty hard right now. I mean hey, i said it was my wife who asked, i could care less. As a lover of the ocean, I am in the minority that believe we are on THEIR turf and that accidents happen-albeit incredibly rare, and just as you stated far more likely to get into a car accident than attacked by a shark. I humored her and agreed quickly to whatever she was telling me to do.

Hmmmm...as I keep clicking on their site I find more and more interesting tidbits.  Did you know this random drawing isn't completely random????

Depending on the following criteria, your chances for getting chosen in the drawing are based on the following priorities (in order)

  • Competed 5 or more times
  • Competed 3 or more times
  • Everyone else

In addition, the random drawing ensures that the following criteria are met:

  • At least one male and one female from all 50 states will be chosen.
  • At least one male and one female will be chosen from all countries that have applied (where possible).

Though, I like the fact that being a female living in SD is going to probably increase my chances of getting chosen.

I really dislike that already having competed multiple times increases your chances...that's kind of unfair.  Share the wealth!  Having competed multiple times should DECREASE your chances!!!!

If you pay attention, you can see the sea lions swimming underneath you. They are the brownish streaks that are going REALLY fast.

But I agree we are on their turf... If a shark showed up in my bathtub then we would have issues.

If I was living in South Dakota, I think I would be siting pretty right now. The only thing you could do to improve your chances would be to move to North Dakota I imagine.

I did the race last year. It was the second time I entered the lottery. I think I was lucky. I think there should be a special lottery for people who have entered the lottery 5 times or more and did not get in.

My daughter and I both got in last year and we had a blast.  We received our email confirmations around 9:00 pm (I think on the 15th).  It wasn't my fastest tri by any means but it was the most fun event I've participated in.  I kept getting sidetracked by the awesomeness of it all and I'd forget I was "racing."  Good luck to all of you!
