i don't see a current race link?

we definitely need an official race thread.....i'm really excited and ready to talk about the race

You can link through Aikidoman's blog now but for the life of me I cannot make the Race Directory search thing find that race he has in there (which BTW, looks like the one I added to the calendar a little bit ago).

I posted in the Support Forum for help.

if you go to YOUR races on the race page, and select ADD RACE, put in the date, city, all that jazz, it comes up.

Weird.  I wonder if the one there is the one I tried to add?  Because it IS still in the holding tank...which is where my added race would sit until it's approved.

Maybe it doesn't get a "Start a Race Talk" until it's out of the Holding Pen?

Could be.  I don't know anything about the "holding tank" thingy...

I was the first, so if you started it, wouldn't you have been the first?

Marma:  Fix this crazyness!!!

I guess since I have it on my calendar I should actually REGISTER.  But I think I will still wait until my Credit Card closes.....

I GOT IN!  Second year in a row!  Woohoo, I feel very lucky and happy.  This is my favorite race of all!

Congrats to all who got in - and for those who didn't - my fingers are crossed for you to get in on 2/1!

LaurenSU02 - 2008-12-16 12:42 PM I'm in! I'm more nervous about this one than I was for IM...

So was I when I got that email last year!  You will LOVE it.  I will see you there!

OK, this is a serious question as I am considering not doing the race for this very reason. For those of you who get seasick easily, what was the boat experience like for you? I am afraid that after spending an hour on that boat, I will be too sick to even attempt the swim. I could take dramamine beforehand, but would have to practice that in training. I just don't want to go through the effort of getting out there only to have it end before it gets started...or to just be a completely miserable day. It would be a total bummer for me and those out there supporting me.

I get seasick pretty easily - any fishing trips wind up w/ me chumming off the back of the boat. I didn't have a problem at all on the boat. You're inside and really not looking outside. Having the horizon bobbing up and down is usually what gets it going for me.

I get seasick fairly easily and didn't have any problems.  It is a large boat and you are inside.  They take out all the furniture and it is essentially a large floating ball room, where everybody just sits on the floor.  If you aren't near a window you can't really see out.  If I remember correctly it only took about 30 - 45 minutes from the time you pull out of the dock until you are in the water.  They get all the participants into the water in 5 to 6 minutes.

It is pretty cool how they do it.  When you get to the edge of the boat to jump in. just go.  If not they will gently push you into the bay, the girl in front of me hesitated and the volunteer pushed her in.  It is an amazing race.  When you are in the water and clear of the ferry, stop swimming for a second and look around, it is a perspective you won't forget.

Edit: Pictures aren't mine, they are from a friend that did the race last year.  He swam with a water proof camera.

THanks guys. You're making me feel a little better. I just have to make sure I don't look at Matt's pictures anymore or I'm going to get seasick whilst sitting here in my dining room .

I GOT IN!!

And I got the email as I left to go see my surgeon about a nightmare of a broken clavicle.  Finally officially determined as a non-union they are going to have to plate it, but no open surgery date until Jan 8th.

So Alcatraz and surgery news on the same day!  But it gives me motivation to heal quick!
