Pre-race routine:

Normal, get up and go. Nothing special.
Event warmup:

Several laps around the parking lot. Steph & I got there at 6:00 AM, then we had to sit in the car for 1.5 hours before check-in started. I think that was what got me flat.

Comments:

Some day you have it, and some days you don't. I could tell about 100 meters into the run that I was not on that day. Mentally, I was not in the game.

First mile was a mix between downhill, and flat. At the 1 mile marker they called 5:50. I have figured out, IMO, that a down hill run is harder to push then a flat run. Right at the 1 mile marker, the course turned up hill. This hill was a monster. Around .7 of a mile long, with a nice grade to it. I was leading the chase pack, but the lead pack was flying! At the top of the hill, I just was not mentally in it. I think because the temp was 29F, and I just could not get my breath. I tried to hammer it, but that was not happening. Mile 2 split was called at 13:01. The final mile was a mix of rollers. The line time was 20:21. Oh well, I was moving slow today. Perhaps I was frozen?

Nonetheless, after I filled out the placement card I walked back to the finsh line to cheer on everyone. Derek came in around the 23:45 mark, and then Scott afterwards. Scott's wife Mandy ran with there two dogs, so it was a good time by all.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up more.

Warm down:

Jogged around a bit as to not have a massive cool down. The post-race swag was great!! Great sponsors!

They were good about starting the awards quickly, since it was cold.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just not mentally in the game that day. Next time I will have to focus more. Mental effort not there, lack of form, etc.... You know it is bad when during a race you are thinking, damn my form sucks and why am I running like that.

Event comments:

Well, the overall goal of this race was to place in the AG awards to bring home a Golden Santa. Well, I ended up pulling 3rd place in my AG and got a Santa. I knew it was 3rd or nothing, since it was a fast field.

Tri d00d ran his 5K last weekend, and I did mine this weekend. Round number 1 goes to tri d00d. I will get him next time!
