Go the bikes all packed up- well, the hubby packed them up   We're very happy with our bikes cases- they are super light and easy to carry- they definitely won't be overweight.  I'm not as stressed about flying with the bikes now because I know they are safe with all the padding and extra packing paper we put in there.  Hopefuly the airlines will be nice to them   Flying out on Friday- can't wait!  I wish we were there now- but at least we'll have all next week to relax after the race!

Good to hear there is going to be athlete tracking! I got the bike all packed up last night and now just need to hope it makes it to can in one piece. I will be doing the ferry thing as well. I booked a private van to the ferry. I hear to wait to buy your ferry ticket until you are there and only get a one-way so that you can ride either of the two boats on the way back.

I wish everyone safe travels and a great race!

We also booked a private van to the ferry in Playa.  Which one are you using?

We went with cancun shuttle, it was about 110 round trip for 4 of us so not too bad price wise either.

Same here!  They seemed really good when I checked out their website and called them.  What day are you arriving?

For those of you already there, what can you tell me/us about taxis and getting around? I'm staying at El Coz, and after checking in tomorrow, want to hit the expo/registration before it closes. Planning on doing the swim on Friday am as well.

Back to packing...

Wow, it is really raining here today. The street in front of our rental house is too deep to get a car down right now. Poor cab driver tried and there was water coming into the car.

Did a little exploring earlier today when it was dry, found that we are only a few blocks from the Convention Center which is super handy.

Cabs are really easy to get. If you are doing any tourist type stuff I'd figure out your plans in advance. The cab drivers are for sure getting a kick back for taking tourist to particular locations.

Once the rain blows out, will do a run to check out the local surroundings, thinking of a bike on the course tomorrow sometime.

I'm not there yet, but I'm staying at the Melia Couzmel which I think is really close to the El Coz.  From what others have told me, taxis are easy to get- at least downtown they are.  Not sure about from the resort.

There are no set rates with the taxis there, so be sure that you agree on a price BEFORE getting into the cab.  A travel agent told me that at least from the ferry dock in Couzmel to the Melia it should cost between $15-$25 on a cab.  He said that if a driver is too high on the price you can just wait around for the next cab driver and see what he will charge.  Make sure to be able to pay the exact amount- I've heard that they won't make change for you.

I do know that for bike check in (to and from) the host hotels have free transportation.  And the same goes for the transportation for the morning of the race.  We are on our own for post race transportation- or at least that's what the athlete's guide stated.

I'm curious to see what others have to say about this who are already there.

110 is good price for round trip for four. For anyone else who wants to go cheaper, you might consider the bus. It only costs $9 /person.

You maybe have to wait 30 minutes, but the bus is nice and airconditioned, with Spanish-dubbed movies for you to watch. It drops you off about a block from the ferry.

There are a ton of car rental places near the main plaza downtown that have ok prices. I was able to get a car for $40 for a single day. If youre renting for longer, sounds like you can easily get prices down to close to $30/day.

We are staying at el cozuneleno right next door to meliz Cozumel . Taxis are really easy to get no problem at the resorts. They are 80 pesos to down town. The weather today is crazy rained really hard for a bit and now is calm. Did a swim earlier and ther was a pretty strong current heading north. If it stays he same for race day the swim will be a kicker. Current on the long part. Also did a run last night and you can feel the bugs hit you. But overall it is going to be an amazing race

Just jumping in, no... the run is along the main drag which is bug free. I'd warn you against going down and walking on th little patches of sand they have, there's lots of bugs down there (sand fleas, I think).

I'm excited for you guys! Good Luck! Can't wait to hear all about it!

My hotel is on the run route and they are plenty of bugs. I don't think spray will be too helpful because we will just sweat it off. I think most people will be running around dusk time when most of the bugs are out and about. It's just one of those things we will just have to deal with. I know I will probably be too tired and sore to even worry about the bugs.

Went out for an hour run a little while ago, then lounged in our rental house's pool, on the roof, next to the grill... ya, I'm pretty happy about that!
