graceful_dave - 2008-12-17 1:38 PM  Another kid is named Female. Pronounced fem al y. When questioned about the unusual name the mother said she was so suprised that the doctor used such a beautiful name on all the paperwork, and since she hadn't picked a name yet, she went with it.

That has got to be possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard...wow - did the woman crawl out from under a rock??!!?!

Remember Anfernee Hardaway the basketball player?   His mom named him that because she thought that is how you spelled Anthony!

At least she came up with something.

A relative of mine worked in the Obstetrics dept in a small-town hospital. One of the moms decided to name her new daughter "Vagina" as she had heard the doctor say that (no doubt several times) and she said it sounded pretty. She was a person whose first language was not English. I hope they explained it to her, but I don't know. That's what went on the birth certificate though. If I'd been the nurse, I'd have "mis-spelled" it Virginia. Poor kid.

There is a difference between stupidity and clear racism... on the former, there were twins named Lemonjello and Orangejello because that was their mom's favorite dessert.

After our daughter was born I was talking kids names with a lady at church.  She tells me that a friend of hers is a Sub-teacher and was doing rollcall one day and came across a name that she dare not try, S-h-i-t-h-e-a-d, so she asks the girl how she pronounces her name, Shi-thead (Shi-theed).  DOH!!!!

And IIRC, she changed her name, she picked it herself when she was rather young.

I actually really liked the fact that the dad said he was raised not to hate non-whites, but not to hang around or date them, but that he was hoping to raise his kids that everyone is fine to be around. There were mixed-race kids at the birthday party. Still, the swastika from an earlier party was a bit much. I would imagine those kids will go by initials or made up nicknames REAL fast!

All I know is that my mom said she actually had the conversation with the lady about how she pronounced the name. My mom is not known for her ability to make stuff up just to trick people.

I think it's horrible. These poor kids are already abandoned orphans. Now they have to spend their lives knowing they were named after someone who hates them and so named just to make him angry. That's a nice additional kick in the junk for someone who already has enough problems. Have a little compassion for the poor abandoned child and name them something nice, for pete's sake.

Funny. When i've looked at my birth certificate, i haven't seen a line that lists where my parents got the idea for the name. i doubt the kids know.

True, but orphans/abandoned kids tend to go looking for information on where they came from. And it's just plain crappy karma.

I have heard the "female" story from at least 10 people.  Most of them knew someone who had PERSONALLY met the Mom in question.  NONE of them had ever actually met the Mom in question.

I've heard it so often, yet never seen actual proof.  Is it possible? Sure.  Could it really have happened this often?  Not a chance.  I still call Urban Legend.

You're probably right. Which means I get to say it again. Shenanigans!

Actually Picabo was her given name. She is named after a town right next to me (she was born very close to where I live now. Snip from wikipedia:

Her given name was inspired by the nearby Idaho town of Picabo, Idaho, (pronounced "Peekaboo"), which in turn takes its name from a Native American word meaning "shining waters".

I love the Dad lamenting that we need to live in the now and forget the past, and yet he names his kid Adolf Hitler and on one birthday wants a swastika on the cake...

I hope when the kid grow up he avoids his families garbage, it would be funny if the kid went to law school joined the Anti Defemation League and changed his name to Levi Schwartz...

Bingo. I think you hit the nail on the head Brock. Let's live in the now? then why choose the name from the past. The dad's failed logic is so obvious that it hurts.
