this thing rocks!

anyone looking to stretch out their IT Band...get one.  hurts, but its kinda a good hurt and it stretches out that IT band like nobodys business.

better than The Stick, IMO.

Yup, the foam roller is pretty freakin' good. I like The Stick as well, though. They are both useful for different things, all of which, I find helpful.

Got the foam roller about 6 wks ago; greatest thing since sliced bread.  I can actually feel my IT compared to before; tight enough that it was almost numb.  Hurt liek H@#$%#!# first couple of weeks but part of my daily routine now.

I was almost brought to tears the first time using it.  I didn't understand how anyone could stand it.  After a week, I can put my entire body weight on it.  It's not 'comfortable', but doesn't hurt like at first.

Yup if I don't do it very regularly, it hurts like a mother*%@& and I can only do it for a little bit at a time.

I don't even want to think about how much I spent on Dr. visits, multiple pairs of shoes, inserts, etc before I realized a $30 foam roller had the most impact on my ITBS. It is not the miracle cure for everyone, but I agree it sure helps!

They are all over the place.  If you google 'foam roller', you will get hundreds of links.

I got mine from 24 hour fitness for 25 bucks or so.  36" long and 6" in diameter (pretty sure)

I have a foam roller and a Trigger Point kit.  The foam roller works really well but the TP Quadballer really works deep (I don't know whats up with the name).  I like to use the TP roller for the thicker muscles but for the more sensitive areas I still use the foam roller (IT Band, lats...).  The only drawback to the Trigger Point kit is the $$$ but I think it's worth it.  It's compact and easy to haul around.

Also, a tennis ball works very well for going after the deep problem areas.  If you do a search on trigger point and tennis ball you should get several hits.  They all have their place.  The tennis ball will go even a little deeper into the thicker muscles and can get at the Psoas.

I have read so many positive comments about foam rollers for ITBS.  Being new to running, I am new to the whole IT Band issue.  My ITB does not "hurt" when I run, but it let's me know it is there on ocassion.  It will only last for about 1/4 mile two times during a six mile run.  It is more of a tight feeling vs. real pain.  I am unclear as to this being the beginning of ITBS.  Should I use a roller before I have any issues?

I got mine at Target in the workout area.  It comes with a DVD to show you how to use it too.

It will make your body twitch and bring tears to your eyes, but I love it

I had pretty bad IT band problems several years ago.  Got to the point where I had to stop running, as the pain would begin immediately.  I slowly built up my running distance and used a combination of stretches, the foam roller as well as the Patt Strap ( an elastic band that you wear above the knee to stablize the IT band) I continue to use the foam roller after every run and biking session even though I don't have any problems.  Figure it can't hurt.

I got mine at performbetter.com, it is a site that a lot of personal trainers shop at to get their equipment.  Works wonders, but only if you are consistent (which I have been guilty of not being, but am back into it!)

foam rollers are amazing...although I have found that many retailers sell much 'softer' rollers, which seem to do me little good, I go for the firmest possible (=more pain initially, but it seems to work so much better) and use it on any muscle I can reach, then use the trigger point gear for the rest

yea, the black ones at the site i mentioned above have super hard rollers... they are unlike the ones they sell at mass retailers i.e. target., which is why a PT friend of mine recommended them.
