Pre-race routine:

The usual morning stuff. Horses, coffee, computer. Nothing special since it was really a training run.

Event warmup:

Jogged down to the park and back to check the ice. Yep, there was plenty of ice. Knew at that point it was going to be a slow one. Lots of people hanging out inside.

Comments:

PW (personal worst)!!! With that much ice and slush there was no way I could go fast. Some people were just zipping along, but not me. Falling hurts. So I just trotted along. Got too hot (of course) and had to take the gaiter off. Then my glasses fogged. Gah. I was pretty glad to be done actually.

What would you do differently?:

I don't think the Yaktrax would have helped, since a lot of the trail was dry pavement. Nothing would have helped.

Post race

Warm down:

Stood around and talked. Then we went to the pool for a short swim. And hot tub.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The usual. And the ice.

Avg- 170 Max- 180 Not sure why it was so high when I was going so slow. I really don't think my feet were going straight the whole time. Would have been much faster on dry ground.
