What do BT recommend?

At the moment I'm thinking of the Selle Italia SLR T1:

I switched to the ISM Adamo Race model in 2006 - makes me smile in my special place.

Although the Race model was intended for riding down in aero position, follow-up testing of their saddles showed better perineal pressure relief for triathletes/time trialists using the ISM Road saddle instead.

There are a few new models in their line up for this year:  http://www.ismseat.com/products.htm

I too have really liked my ISM Adamo Road saddle on my road bike.  Now that i have the tri bike i am probably about to buy one for it.  I keep hearing people at the bike shop etc comment on it negatively.  No one can give any reason why they say it is a bad idea other than "you use the nose of the saddle for control of the bike" but i do not really buy that.  And i hear the "why are  no pros on them" question -- for which i really can not answer.

Any thoughts on the resistance in the cycling community to the ISM adamo?

The cycling community (in comparison to the tri community) is much more resistant to change and more steeped in tradition, therefore slower to adopt new ideas. Many cycling innovations were adopted by triathletes before becoming more mainstream with purist cyclists.

As for pros riding ISM, there are several high profile pros and elites using them; a few officially sponsored ones:http://www.ismseat.com/athletes.htm  and there are also some pro tour cyclists on them as well.

Howdy,

I have a question for all you fine folks. I am looking to possibly get a new saddle, that would help with my, ummmmm, "under carriage". When I get done riding, my "fellas" are extremely sore. I have tried moving around in the saddle, but cant find a comfortable position.

Suggestion, much appreciated.

ISM, your a** will feel like a train wreck for a few rides until you get it broken in. The boys or under carriage will love it immediately.

Here is a list that did not work for me:

Bontrager TT/ numbness and a lots of it

Fizik Arione Tri/ numbness in moderation

Selle Italia SLR T1/ occasional numbness, was able to tolerate, ended with epididymitis

ISM Adamo Race/ pain everywhere, numbness in legs and feet, to wide for me, threw it away

What seems to be working so far for me is Specialized Tri Tip SL 50mm.

No matter how many oppinions you get, the saddle choice will have a trial and error component. You may get lucky.

How about the Selle SMP?  I just picked up the 'glider' model but have yet to put it on the bike and change out my arione tri2.  concerned about the painful ''breakin'' from what i am reading.  Is it that bad?

I'm eager to see John Cobb's latest saddle offerings - he's setting up his online business selling Cobb-designed saddles (his V-Flow line). Since he had a hand in the development/design of the Adamo line, and rode these saddles (he's a triathlete for those who weren't aware he did anything but cycling/aero engineering), I'm sure they will have a similar concept of pressure-relief.

Hey Sty, are you thinking of changing from adamo to the cobb saddle?

I had ordered a new adamo, however the place i ordered from emailed to say they were out of the grey, so i am debating on ordering black, waiting on grey, or ordering from someone else...

Saddles are definately personal.  I bought a Specialized Team Toupe.  To look at it, one would think that it would "kill" you.  However, I have found it to be very comfortable after I broke it in on my trainer last winter.  The seat has plenty of flex built into the rails to absorb vibrations and cushion bumps. It fits my sit bones great and doesn't let other parts of my body "sink" into the saddle.  There is very little padding, so your sit bones do the work.  I was told that this is the way it should be, I don't know.

I'm not so sure how it would work on a TT bike though.  If/when I get a tri bike, I may have to change. I am riding this saddle on my road bike.

Another thing to keep in mind is good shorts.
