Subject: Treadmill help!

Hey everyone!

Thank you in advance for the help.

I have a problem with my treadmill, after i run on it for about 5 minutes at moderate speed, it turn off, completely, then i turn it back on, it work fine for another 5 minutes and then turns off again and this cycle continues until i get on my bike trainer instead (it doesnt have this problem ).

Has anyone had the same problem, anything you found that works to stop this?

Thank you,

Maks

If it's any consolation, I find the treadmill a big turn off as well

What you are experiencing doesn't sound normal - is there a timer on it that got set to 5 minutes? Do you have the treadmill operator's manual, or can you contact the manufacturer and ask them? Sounds like you might need a repairman, not internet forum advice.

Good luck

Yeah thats probably what i will have to do.  Dont like running on the treadmill but sometimes its just a better way and now that i started watching 24 from the first season, it will make it bearable to spend some time on it.

It worked fine before, didnt have a timer, 5 minutes is just an average.

Thanks for the help,

Maks

Sounds like it may be overheating unplug it and clean all the dust around the motor.

If it is 5 min exactly every time, it might be a session limit like a fitness center would set to keep people from hogging the equipment. Is your treadmill a commercial model by chance?

ETA - 5 min would obviously be a very short session. It would have either been one busy gym or set inadvertantly.

Crank it up 1 degree every time Jack says "Tell me what I want to know!" and you will be a monster on the run.....

Yes I agree it's more than likely a thermal issue.  Usually the motor has a built in thermal cut off or it's controlled by the external electronics.  If either one of these two electronic bits is on the fritz replacing it is your only option.  But more likly the cooling system failed.  Either by blockage of the vents, probably not, or their is a fan that blows on the motor that has failed.  Look in the air holes and see if there's a fan inside that's not turning (when the TM is on of course).  Replacing this fan may be a diy operation, or if you're really lucky the wire to the fan has come loose.  Of course if you're not comfortable with electricity don't try it yourself, or if it's under warrenty don't make it your problem.

OK seems like cleaning it did the trick! Took the motor cover off, used the vacuum and sucked up all the dust, now its all good.

Was able to run for about 3 hours over the weekend, lots of "Tell me what i need to know" from Jack....

The bad guys had it coming....

Thanks everyone for the help,

Maks
