Have any of you done the Emory Medical Comprehensive Health Screening??

It's a very involved set of tests. It would normally cost thousands of dollars to have all these tests done, but they pay you to take them!  I think they pay something like $125 or so...

They are looking for people 20 to 90 years old but especially for people 50 years and older who

1) are healthy with no known medical problems,

2) not taking medications,

3) willing to be screened for the presence of an early disease

An exercise capacity test is one of the preliminary tests they conduct...

A buddy of mine said the exercise test it to exhaustion...

Thanks!

I've never done a screening like that before, but I'd be willing to devote some time for $125 or so. Where do you get more info?

I did a study there a couple of years ago where they tested cardiac health. I went over once and had some blood drawn and baseline testing done (EKG, etc). And then the next time they did ultrasounds all over my body on the main arteries (Femoral, brachial, corratid (sp?) ) and then at the extremeties to test blood flow.  They also gave me nitro glyceren (which if you have never taken it before is a trip) and did the same test. In the afternoon I did a VO2Max test and some other performace type testing. It was REALLY cool to get all the results and see where I fell in relation to other people. And they paid and fed me while I was there.

Go for it!

Don't forget, no anti-oxidants for a least 1 week before the testing, this includes multi-vitamins, etc.

So, do you have a report?

I think it will be closer to three hours in the future, but I would not set my schedule around it. There were a few people doing it at the same time and only one person in charge.  I think her name is Nino.  She is from the Republic of Georgia.  I did a fair amount of waiting. First you read about the test and sign each page.  I think this took me over 30 minutes, but I actually read the paper.  Next, they took my blood pressure three times waiting several minutes each time.  I think the test called for two minutes, but it was several each time because she was helping other people.  Next they drew blood.  Next they took me across the street and did a muscle reaction test.  They had me take my shoe off and gave me a light shock on my ankle that made my foot jerk.  Then they did the same thing to my wrist.  After that they took me to another room for the VO2 max test.  The person in charge of the VO2 test is a member of the Peachtree City Tri club.  I forgot her name though.  I have never had one before so I will describe it.  They were training someone to do it.  They had me breath into a device several times.  I think they may normally on do three times.  Then I rode the exercise bike with another think on my nose and mouth.  After the bike.  I breathed into the other apparatus a few more times.  All in all, I was very satisfied.  Nino called me yesterday with my cholesterol results.  She is mailing them to me also.  A doctor is supposed to call me back for the artery tests.   I can see how you could be out in three hours.  I just would not set my schedule by it.
