Swim
Comments: I started the swim well but it seemed that I drifted off course a little and drifted too close to the beach where the current wasn't as strong. I tried to swim back out to deeper water but was unable to. Overall still very happy with the time, gotta love that current. What would you do differently?: Try and swim further out from the beach to stay in the strong current. Transition 1
Comments: Ran into T1 and found by bike. Put my helmet and glasses on and had some water and headed out to the cycle leg. The rubber bands worked a treat again and I was able to run with my bike and jump on without stopping. Took my time getting into my shoes and used the small down hill sections to good use. What would you do differently?: Nothing, it seemed to go well. Bike
Comments: As always I got passed by a million and one guys from my age group. I am sick of seeing the letters KK (my age group letters) pass me by. My average speed for the course (which was short 4 kms) was 31 km/ph so I was happy with that, but i just need to go faster. Had a gel at the end of the third lap, ready for the run. What would you do differently?: I need to go faster it's as simply as that......... It would probably help to train more on the bike as well (have just bought a nearly new Avanti pushie so this might help my time, we'll see). Transition 2
Comments: T2 went well. What would you do differently?: Put some socks on for the 8km run and this took some time but I ran with no blisters so it was time well spent. Run
Comments: Started well and managed to pass a few of my age groupers who passed me on the bike. The last two km was a killer and I was the closest to walking some of the course as I have ever been in a race so far. Managed to keep running and finished strong for the final 400 meters. Happy with the time but am aiming to run at 5 minute k's or faster. What would you do differently?: I felt my energy dropped half way through the run so next time, for this distance, I'll take an extra gel for the run and see if that helps. Post race
Warm down: Drank a heap of water and a few bananas (there was no watermelon left….what the!!). Stretched a bit and caught up with a training buddy. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swimming off track, riding slow and not enough energy for the run. Event comments: Glad to have completed another tri. I know that I have room for improvement with more training (must spend less time tapering and carbo loading). I also learnt that I need more energy to finish a race of this distance and will take this knowledge into my next race, an olympic distance tri on the 1st May. Last updated: 2005-03-13 12:00 AM

Packed all my stuff the night before and discovered that I had left my goggles at work in my locker. Drove to work and got to my locker and realised that I had forgotten my key. Drove home and got locker key and drove back to work. An hour later I had finished packing my stuff. Not the pre race routine I was hoping for.
Slept well and work up at 4.45am and drove to Bribie. I had a protein bar about an hour before race start. Taped a Gel to my bike for the ride.
Watched the pros start to see how to approach the swim. The swim start was in waist deep water (unusual!!) on a sand bank. There was a strong current flowing in the direction we were swimming, which makes for a great swim time, (I love this swim).
