Subject: I get paid to run
Lately, I've been training my heart. I was running too fast all the time. So, today during my run, I had to walk because my heart rate went too high. While I walked I looked down and discovered a penny. I received exactly one cent for training correctly.

You'll find more ... one year I was up to $1.78 in change recovered along my regular run route. (Quarters portend a banner day)

Btw, I feel your frustration.  I too am back to Zone 2 running and have to resort to walking when my HR elevates into Zone 4.

Perhaps some of the more learned can chime in but I was under the impression that provided that you do not spend any significant time above your LT that the moving average for the entire run just needs to be in Zone 2.

This should enable you to 'actively recover' down to your Zone 2 HR.

It's too hard to stay in Z2 for an entire run. I have to really, really slow down going up hills (i refuse to walk), but figure that as long as the average HR is Z2 for the run, it is ok.

You have to remember that HR zones are man-made.  The body responds on a continumum (sp).  If your goal is to have a Z2 run and your average for that run is in Z2.  Then you did what you wanted.

But, also take this as an opporunity to regulate your effort so that you can stay in the zone you want while the terrain changes.  Some climbs it's more difficult, but focus on it and you will be surprised.  This also counts for keeping it in your zone during the down hill.  That's the hard part!

Today.my daughter and I ran  the Atlanta Track club 5k in Peachtree city. I finished 2 place in my age group at 25:28 and average HR at 169 bpm in Z3. Sure was cold. I guess only about 250 or so runners ran. Good run though. That's number 4 for me in the Grand Prix Series and I won 80 points in the series too!

Anyone one else in the Altanta Track club?

I found $1 while running with my wife yesterday!  Apparently, she saw it on the out portion and I picked it up on the back portion.  She claimed it, but I told her she should have stopped to get it when she saw it.  So what it was on a nasty climb.

The DOLLAR is MINE!!!
