chriselam - 2009-03-26 4:48 PM Is there a consensus on whether this race will sellout onsite again this year now that they changed the rules requiring you to pay for it? And the economy isn't helping any I'm sure. I really want to register for 2010 but now I'm not sure I'll be able to take the Monday off of work.

The odds are VERY high that it will sell out onsite unless they hold some slots back for online.  If you "really" want to race it in 2010, then I think you have to be there.  Otherwise, you're taking a big chance.

I've said this before, but that has not yet been tested under the new pay-when-you-register system.  I personally do not think it will sell out this year... I certainly don't think it is "VERY" likely... take that with a grain of salt, however, since I'm racing community fund due to losing that gamble last year (where you did not have to pay when you registered but only got a voucher).

I'm pretty sure I'll do this race in '10, I just need to figure out how to sign up. I have the NYC Tri the same day so I could drive up after and wait in the regular on-site line, or skip NYC and volunteer. I hate to skip NYC due to the ridiculous entry fee I already paid. Do you guys think I'll be ok in the regular line if I get there super early? I don't mind the wait. I just want to get in.

swishyskirt - 2009-02-27 10:31 AM Got my volunteer assignment--I'm at the Cascade Inn bike aid station. Anyone else? I'm definitely signing up for 2010. I hope the weather theories are totally inaccurate. lol. Are you allowed to swim in the lake the day before? That would be fun. Although...might need to get a wetsuit before I try that.

Yep that is where I am too, the station with the "crazy hat" theme?

I am really hoping to do LP in 2010, but I live in Texas and don't think I can make it up there to volunteer and register on site. I don't necessarily mind paying for a community slot. I did some research and pretended to register for this year's LP to see what kind of prices those are. Then you selected a category, like CAT M, CAT S, ect. one of the categories was 525$. The other was 1300$. What does this mean?

i'm thinking early about next year's IM race for me....and LP is #1.   however, living in Fla. i won't be able to register on-site.   typically, when does online registration open?   is it the day after the race?

I don't know if this question was already asked, but if you don't volunteer, can you still sign up the next day?

And before you get on my case about not volunteering, I would like to, but it might not be possible with work and school schedules. More likely, we'll have to drive up after work, through the night, then sign up, turn around and drive home. At this point, that seems like a safer option than waiting to see if it sells out onsite, especially with two of us signing up (ie- CF would be too much $$)

Hopefully, we can hang out for the weekend and volunteer, but I just want to know what our chances are.

To answer the last few posts...

I doubt this race will open at all online.

The day after, there's a huge line on-site. Volunteers have their own line and sign up first. Then everyone else. I believe everyone on-site got in. Online registration never happened.

As xmann said...there is the question of what effect the change of forcing people to pay immediately (as opposed to just getting a voucher last year) will have on how many sign up in person.

xmann1102 - 2009-05-17 6:36 PM i'm hoping on-site payment gives me a shot of registering online.

Combined with the recession, I'm hoping for a shot.

And hoping to still have a job come July 2010

Does anyone have an idea on when the online registration will open?  I don't think I will be able to drive down to do the on-site registration and know I won't be able to volunteer.

Thanks,
Brian

I don't think I can make the drive from Okinawa to LP to volunteer, gonna need some luck or an extra $700 for a community slot.  I bet the grandparents would kick in some dough just to see their grandkids.

According to the website, on-site registration starts the day after the race at 9 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m., then online opens up at noon.

I haven't gotten a hotel room yet! Where is everyone staying?
