Pre-race routine:

Rode down to the race with my roommate Len and our friend Bill who was doing his first half marathon.
Event warmup:

We found a parking lot next to the start area that was in the sun so we hung out there until it was time to go to the corrals.

Comments:

I went out a little faster than I should of and I could feel it later on in the race. I was feeling pretty tired towards mile 10 or so and could really feel myself slowing down. I knew the race was almost over at this point so I tried to suck it up and have a decently strong finish. You can see my splits going up until mile 12 when I finally started bringing things back around.

What would you do differently?:

While I know I went out too fast and lost time on almost every mile. The early miles were of the pace I used to be able to run and want to be back to.
This race at least let me know that the speed is still there I just need to get a little more fit at that pace.
Post race
Warm down:

I wandered around until I found my friends and got my two free beers. Met up with Len and Bill after they finished. Bill has lost 50 lbs. since last years Super Bowl and did his first 1/2 Mary in just over 2 hours, he did awesome! After that we headed to the Tavern on Mill to have a beer and endure the slowest and worse service I have experienced in a long time. They seemed surprised they were busy, just the marathon and a Cardinals play off game going on, who would have thought they'd be busy!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

You can always be a little more fit!

Event comments:

They always do a great job with these races. Even with the huge numbers of racers they still handle everything very well. It was a good day: I was perfectly happy with my race time, I brought my flip flops for after the race (even though the whole time I thought I had forgotten them), and most unbelievable of all the Arizona Cardinals are NFC Champions and are going to the Super Bowl!

Great race there... Looking at your splits, you took off like a shot on M1 !  Even though the hills weren't much, it was pretty evil to have them starting at M9.

Great race! and where did you find the beer after the race? I couldn't find it anywhere, lol. Your early mile splits were amazing, I'm sure that when your training gets back to where you want it you'll have no problem holding that for the whole race!

You had some incredibly fast first couple of miles. I made that mistake last year and bonked about mile 9. This year I slowed just 15 seconds a mile and felt so much better.
Congratulations on a great race. You're a fast runner.

Nice race!  We all learn pacing lessons like this.  Mile 10 was slow for everyone with the hills and the wind was a pain all day...

Great race, Travis.  So you hit the lap button on your watch every mile? I need to start doing that.  That data is great after the race.

Way to go.

Good work Travman... especially sucking up those last few miles and picking your pace back up a little.

I remember when you were running those 7 minute miles all the time!
