Subject: Open Water Swims
I have been searching for open water swims to compete in leading up to my first olympic triathlon in may. I could only find one, part of the open water swim series, which is at the beginning of may. Are there any good events in March and April? I wouldn't mind traveling to southern cal if you may know of one there too. Thanks in advance.

We will hold open water swims on Thursday night starting in late April sometime.  I know you were looking for events but the cool kids will race with you! :>

I know for a fact that if we were to do these now I would not fit into my wet suit!

If you want an event (instead of just joining the Cool Kids out at BJC), there is a 1500m open water swim as part of the Bartlett Lake OLY in March.  You can just sign up for the swim

There is a four part open water series this summer. Each event has an option to swim 2000 or 4000 meters. I am thinking about doing a few if not all of them.

2009 Arizona Open Water Series

Attention all open water swimmers, there will be an expanded open water swimming series in 2009!  DCB Adventures will host five events at Phoenix-area lakes during both the late spring and early fall.  All will be USMS-sanctioned events and offer online event entry.

The website for more info: www.dcbadventures.com. The series starts in May and the first event is at Saguaro lake.

The Arizona Open Water Series is what I found on my search of trifind.com/az.  I plan on doing the 4000m swim beginning of May, but was hoping for some more open water time in March and April. I'll definitely check out those other events mentioned.

As for the Saguaro Lake Thursday swimming... what time do you guys usually meet?

Here is a link to last year's thread.  It gives the details on the first page.  Looks like last year our first swim was April 3.  I remember it was cold, but doable with a full wetsuit.  In the summer it gets really hot.  We meet at 5:30 and swim, then change and run up the hill to the highway and back.  4 killer miles in the heat.  We try to top it all off with some cold brewskies and lots of socializing afterward! Every Thursday. Be there or not be a Cool Kid!

You may also wish to check the Tribal Sprint at Lake Plaeasant as they had on OWS race as well last June.
