Meeeechiganders Part 3 (MP3)

OK, April 9 or 10 (fromer-less, he'll be in TO-Lizzle) or April 23 or 24 (this would include the Fromer Boston Qualifying Beerfestivizzle - heh).  Location TBD.  Long Run in preparation for 5/3 Riverbank Run, the Willow Du, and Matt's Marathon.

Beer and Major Food afterward.  Grey swedeoes are the suggested attire.  Plus a quick exchange of who's racing where in the coming month or two.  Who's in?

Expecting responses from:

Charles81 - Chizzle
Fromer - Fromizzle
Rkreuser - rkizzle - *IN*
Trixie - Tizzle
Mitrigal - Dizzle
Wingfan5 - Wingfizzle

I know Chizzle is doing the Potowatami 1/2 Marathon (in HELL) on April 24th.  I might be doing this race also... depends.

Matt's Marathon??? I have my own marathon??? That's so cool. Won't all 1499 other participants in the Bayshore Marathon be disappointed to get a race T-shirt emblazened with "Matt's Marathon" with my picture on it???

I'm PROBABLY out. Flying out to Oregon on the 9th, which takes me out for the 9th and 10th. As for the 23rd and 24th, I'm scheduled for 20 miles and I'm not sure if ya'll can keep up with the Wingfizzle over that much distance. However I can tell you my training crew will be running the River Bank Run course on the 23rd if anybody wants to check it out. (We'll run the course plus 5 more miles.)

And RKizzle, you are SOOOO IN.

April 9th and 10th work well for me. The 23rd is okay, but not great. The 24th is out.

Lansing River Trail is a nice run. 8 miles one direction, so an out and back gives you a good distance. However, I would be very willing to try something new and different...that doesn't include me donning a "grey swedeo" however.

Definitely a maybe. But my wife is due on April 12, so meeting either one of those dates might be tough. I'll keep an eye out for the exact date and do my best to make it.

Damn!!  Charles just dropped the hammer

Nice work, pal!  I'm leaning toward doing Potowatami...just depends on how fast I recover from my mary.

I'm free to make my first Michigan Mafia appearance either weekend, but only if it gets me a name ending in -izzle.

Kinda funny Mike - I was gonna say the only way I'd show up is if I DON'T get an -izzle name. I think only bad ones are left - fizzle, drizzle or they'll switch the vowel and we'll get guzzle and muzzle.  Now if we can get somethin' like gazelle or dazzle, hmmmmmmm ...

I might be up for that 1/2 martian on the 24th.

Nothing has been decided, Jen!

If it means more BT participation, I am all for doing less mileage .  Crazy Wingfizzle is the one who fires out of the gate and is all about LOOONG runs

I wouldn't be surprised though if BOTH weekends become Michigan Mafia events .  Our numbers are rapidly expanding

I am at pinckney for the trail half on the 24th as well...and I am abolutely with Gary...if you want to take this mafia international...there has to be a ironclad 'no izzle' rule for the northern contingent...I don't know if anybody (Charles??) has done this event before...but I promise you Fromer, it won't feel like 'only 13'...it may even satisfy your inner mile monster...it is an absolute killer...see you there...it can be your first training run for the Framingham to Boylestown 26.2 mile fun run, sponsored by the Boston Athletic Association, April 17, 2006 ...Man, that's a lot to put on a t-shirt...why don't they just call it something shorter??

Hmm....I've never done it before.  Opps.... Looks like this MIGHT not be an easy training run after all for me then!! hahahaha....

Daryll -  Are you planning to go out hard??  I've heard that the course is tough....and I saw the results from last year too.  I think Fromer might do it as a "training" run.

OH YEAH!!  If ANYONE is game, there's a TRAIL MARATHON (26.2 MILES) on the same day at the SAME PLACE as well!!   WINGFAN....you might want to check this out??

Charles;  it is definitely a killer.  Planning to go under 2 this year, and hope the weather co-operates.  Last year it was 30's-40's and freezing rain...Some huge hills, but mostly rollers, but constant up down, on varying track, from six foot wide rail trail, to mountain bike, to about a mile and a half of single track walking trail...people get bottlenecked in a big hurry...good test...not a PB type course.  I am hoping to stay within 10 minutes of PB, that would make me real happy.  The marathon is just two loops.  Great prep for DWD, if you are doing it, because it is a lot of the same stuff, if not, will probably give you the itch to try it next year.  Good place for all to meet, because we could hang together in the park after the race, or head into AA for something to eat (never miss a chance to go to Amir's!, although the new BW3 is pretty cool too)...hope to see as many of you there, and if Fromie step his training down to a paltry 13 maybe we will see him too...Hopefully Duke, or UK takes care of business, and I won't have to wear a sparty shirt when I see him

On the half mary in pinckney...I have not done that specific race, but I have done Dances with Dirt 3 times, and the trail there is no joke. Having run these trails I can tell you, some of the hills are sandy, much of the trail can get muddy, poison ivy isn't an uncommon occurance, you will get bottled necked at points on the trail, and twisting ankels on rocks or roots isn't uncommon.

All that being said...Dances With Dirt is the best running race I have ever done, and that is partly due to the race course (although there is a ton more that goes into a 5 person, 100K relay over 15 segments). I assume that the fun and insanity that surrounds the 1/2 mary is probably similar. If it wasn't the same day as the Lansing Race for the Cure (a cause that means a ton to me - I have done one race every year for the past 6 years) I would do the half at pinckney.

What the heck has happened to us in Michigan??? Rick, Trix and I are all down now.

The Mafia is losing it's sizzle. Perhaps a quick trip to the Big Boy would fix us all up.

Get well, all.

You know Wingfizzle, a trail mary would be easier on the joints ....

I'll say it again, I wouldn't be surprised if we got together for both weekends

If I do the 1/2 mary it will be a training run, as I doubt my body will have recovered from my mary to blitz a grueling 1/2.  Plus, I plan to "A" race the following weekend in Ann Arbor (Burns Park).

However, I am all about pounding beers post 1/2 mary !!

OK.  There has been some discussions amongst the Michigan Mafia rank and file, and the idea is to have 2 different group runs!!

First run will be more relaxed and newbie runner friendly - complete with a trip to the Big Boy and swearing in of new Mafia members (adopting an "izzle" nickname is optional ).  The proposed dates:  April 3rd or April 10th, depending on everyone's sked.  Location:  East Lansing, at the lake trail Dana mentioned before.  EL is centrally located...  and us west siders need to save gas money!!  However, If no west siders attend, we could meet again at Kensington.

We would like to have a date picked for the group run by THIS weekend, so toss in your opinion!!

Second group run will be the Potowatami Trail 1/2 Mary on April 24th.  It's a tough course... but I know several Mafia members will be in attendence!  If you don't run, you could always show up and give support !!  Post race plans will DEFINITELY include beer and food

Go State!!

I would be up for a newbie run! I still alternate run/walk. I will be up north the weekend of 4/3 but available 4/10 weekend. Someone one explain the "izzle" business.......Julie.
