Polar Bear Run
55F / 13C
Precipitation
Total Time = 20m 1s
Overall Rank = /2000
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 3/
Pre-race routine:

It was raining before the race so not much of a warmup. Jogged about five to ten minutes, not nearly enough! My stomach was upset and killing me before, during, and after the race.
Run
  • 20m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

One thing that stunk was the use of these disposable timing chips that started everyone at the same time. While this is neat technology, it also meant that if you didn't start right in front then you lost a Whole lot of time!
What would you do differently?:

I ran pretty steadily but felt like I was missing that extra "gear." I think it is a combination of building volume through training for upcoming marathon and a half ironman. I probably would have taken a complete rest day yesterday and had my stomach not hurt!!
Post race
Warm down:

The best thing about this race is that I did it with my husband and both my in-laws!! Waited for the in-laws who both did awesome on their first race!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Tummy pain. Too much running, biking, swimming, and various other modes of exercise.

Event comments:

I have to give props to the race for superior organization, great volunteers, and great hardware!

Performance: Average
My goal for this race was to not go out too fast as I have in my two most recent 5ks, starting out at a 5 something, then gradually slowing. According to the garmin my splits were exactly 6:28 6:28 6:25 Then for the last tenth I forgot to stop it.
Course: The course was fine, it was not exactly Super flat but there were lots of volunteers and crowd support, which was great. At the beginning they have you all shoved into one lane (2200) people for the start, so for the first two miles I was dodging and weaving through people.

Solid run on that course, and in the rain!! Great job on pacing out the miles very even.
