Hello Friends,

We have just opened registration up for the Aug 2nd Inaugural Waseca Triathlon in Waseca, MN on Clear Lake. We have 2 distances to choose from. The Sprint Course is a 1/4 mile Swim, 14 mile Bike, and a 4.4 mile run. The 1/3 Iron-distance is a 1 mile Swim, 34 mile Bike, and a 9 mile Run. Go to www.WINMultisports.com to find out more information about this event. It is a USAT Sanctioned and Directed event. The venue is really nice and the city of Waseca is really excited about this event. I got the idea for this event while training for my 1st 1/2 Iron-distance event last year. I had only done an Olympic distance event prior to my 1/2 Iron race. I wished that I had something in between the 1/2 and the Oly distance, but just could not find anything like that, other than training. So, I created this distance for the those people wanting a longer challenge than an Oly, but not quite ready to do the 1/2 Iron race or just wanting a tune-up for a 1/2 Iron race. Those of you who are doing your math right now will find that the distances are not exactly a 1/3 Iron if you take 1/3 of the distances for each event of an Ironman race. I wanted to have a swim that was longer than an Oly, but shorter than a 1/2 Iron. The bike course would be 37 miles if it were exactly 1/3 of an Ironman bike course, but the roads did not work out perfectly for a loop bike course of that distance. I think a 34 mile course is a good step up in between the 24.9 miles of the Oly and the 56 miles of the 1/2 Iron bike courses. The run course is just about perfectly in the middle of the two. So, with that said we have ourselves a unique distance to challenge us. Frankly, I am jealous I can't do the race, but I guess somebody has to direct this thing. Anyway, the Sprint course is designed to attract brand new people to the sport of triathlon. This is a mission my wife, Wendy, and I are committed to. We love the sport and wish to grow it as much as we can in Southern Minnesota. We are also committed to clubs and teams and we are giving a discount off of the entry fee for those participants that are members of a triathlon or running club. We are also supporting Waseca's Lakes Association in this race. Come out and join us for a great time in August.

Despite this race coming at a really bad time in my schedule I may have to do this.  My parents are from Waeca and I have thought this would be a great venue for a race.  Best of luck with this one Bill.  Do you have the course updated on the web-site?  I have been checking periodically and have not seen anything yet.  As a side note I have been asked to help organize a duathlon in New prague this year.  As long as it doesn't interfere with any of your races I may be interested in getting some advice if you are up for it Bill.

Sounds great and wish I could do it - but it's the same day as Tour de Tonka

I just signed up for this race. I'm actually racing IMWI and racing High Cliff in June. I thought this would make a really nice training day. Staying in Owatonna. Looking forward to it.

Jeremy just finished my registration for the 1/3 Iron!  Normally I do my own registrations, but Active.com really hates me.  I never get it to work right.  Never know if I'm registered for a tri or a hang-gliding tournament.  Anyway, I'm already excited about this race!

I saw this one online a few weeks back and am SO bummed.  I was born in Waseca and moved to Texas in 2003.  I would LOVE to do the event, but getting up to Minnesota for the triathlon won't work out in my schedule.  We're already planning on coming up for a July 4th wedding, and I'll be doing the MinneMan Triathlon that morning.  Coming back later in the summer for the Waseca tri won't be feasible with the cost of airfare, bike shipment, etc.

Enjoy the tri if you can do it, and say hi to my folks if you see them!

I'm already committed to the Big Creek Tri in Des Moines, IA that weekend. Will try and hit it up for the short course next year.
