Half with #52335. That's a much higher number than any other event I've ever done.

I read on the website that headphones are a no-no.  Anyone know if this is enforced??

I thought the official rules were changed and headphones are allowed now on run courses. This of course only applies to run only races. Anyone??

This was on the website -

  • Can I run with ipods, mp3 player, stroller, dogs, headphones, or cell phones?

NO, in consideration for safety of all participants, there will be NO coaches, headphones, skateboards, baby joggers, bikes, animals, or in-line skates allowed on the course.

But I went to a clinic at Big Peach a few weeks back and they had someone from the race there and she made a comment about making sure you aren't so tuned into your headphones that you miss the turn off for the half marathon.  So I guess it just might not be enforced?

I am considering running my first marathon ever with my ipod!  I have always been one who wanted to experience the race in total, and not escape in music.. that MAY change for this one. Not sure I can do it though. Physically or mentally. I like the random conversations, the crowd, the foot steps, the cheering, the noises... but this time, I may want to add some music.

Maybe I'll just wear it, and use it after Piedmont Park. It's really a bigger decision than it seems. heh.

The rule is NO for liability.  Insurance says No way.

Applicability:  Essentially, unless you're in the hunt for the money, they are not going to bust you for wearing your IPOD.  I've listened in on elite briefing and they specifically mentioned IPOD's.

The rule was changed so that the RD can decide what they want to do.  There are some marathons that will DQ you if you have an IPOD, etc in.  But I'm pretty sure that ING is not one of those.

The USATF rule change allows it, but deferred the decision to allow music to the race directors, so it's a race by race decision. I think there will be a gradual acceptance among race directors of marathons.

I raced my last 1/2 marathon with my ipod as I thought it would help a I pretty much always train with it...I found I didn't like racing with it.  I'm leaving it at home for the full.

I'm escorting too so I'll see you at the wheeler tent.  I'll be on Marietta Street near intersection with Baker after the wheelers are done to cheer everyone else on.

Ahh. Okay, I knew I had *heard* about that somewhere. I'll be sure to be careful lol. I usually don't wear my IPOD either but I did last year on this course and I will again this year. Sometimes when I wear mine I don't even turn it on, I just like having the option. heh.
