So I got into IMLP through the community fund.  I did a half 2 years ago and felt good so I wanna go for the full one.  I ran the Philly marathon in November and have been doing a decent amount of swimming (2,000 yds per session) and 60-80 minutes on the bike trainer 2-3x/week.  I do betwen 4-8 mile runs and I will be starting the 20 week program in late March.

So any info/advice would be appreciated.  I know I need to get more volume in--especially on the bike.  I'd love to learn from others mistakes...thx

Depending on where you live, you're going to want to do some serious hill training. I did a half in 2005 and did very little hill training and it showed on the bike and into the run. So my advice, ride as much as possible and do at least 1 good hill session per week. You'll be happy you did come race day.

Don't leave your nutrition in your hotel room still in the fridge on race morning!  It makes for a crazy morning !!!!

I can't say I made any mistakes....  But I asked a lot of questions going up to it - so that's tip 1.  The other two key ones for me were:

Don't neglect your long bikes/runs/swims.

Dial in your nutrition.

Be prepared to make changes if needed due to weather, mechanical issues, etc.

My wife and I have a bunch of little tips on our site that you may be interested in reading.  We started as newbies about 4 years ago and have made some awesome mistakes along the way.  The site is meant to help questions just like yours.  Take a look back in some of the older posts for some good ones that apply to a first time Ironman.

Pacing the bike is important.  Knowing what kind of race nutrition works for you is equally important.

You'll find a few at least that will be sure to help.
