Yep I'll be doing it.  Even though I have been training all along, my training offically kicks off on Sunday.

A little over 20 weeks to the race.  Doesn't sound to far away.

No, not far away.  I will be doing it, then doing IMLP, AGAINST, what everyone says about rest time between the two.  What can I say, I am stubborn.  Ran my first marathon on two training runs of 3-6 miles on a dare.  Competing my first HIM with no training program and only completing a total of 3 swims of less than .5 miles.  Why change my ways now, right?!

I am in. With the way my training is going, the run will be a death march. After you finish come out and cheer me on. I will be that fat guy finishing last!!!

Deal gator22, do the same for me if the roles are reversed!  Or maybe you could just help me by pulling me with a rope as you swim ahead of me!  If you can do that, I will carry you on my back and we'll march together!  (that sums up my swim training thus far).

Regardless, keep in touch.  I will be taking a drive over to Tupper to ride the course at least once prior to the race.  Be more than happy to meet up with anyone to ride with.

LOL death march, that is exactly how I envision it today.  Hoping to change that to a slow death jog (is that even a term??) with some training.

My friend just went up to Lake Placid and drove on Route 3. He said that road was pretty rough. Hoping he doesn't know what he is talking about!!

I have ran/ridden that road a couple times.  The road is VERY rough in some spots.  I believe that the towns "patch" the road come spring, but with riding the course last year, I did have the thought that "these roads suck!"

Maybe they will be fixed come race day?!?! ha!

I live in Tupper Lake and have started training for my first sprint distance tri. I rode the sprint bike loop on 5/4/09 and the road is very rough! You will need to keep your head up and watch for obstacles or you could get in trouble quickly! I was thinking of doing my training on this loop but do not wish to pound my cycle like that twice a week. I find the road towards long lake from tupper lake Rt. 30 is real nice for training rides, nice wide shoulders and once you get 8-9 miles from town the hills begin become more challenging. As of now my plan is to cut my tri teeth on one of the mini tris held weekly in lake placid.

BTW I have done the Tupper Half twice. The roads did not seem unusually rough to me, however the course does lean towards the Hard course category.

Also the Mini races at Placid sound freakishly awesome. I would LOVE to have something like that locally!

Good luck to all doing the Tupper Lake Tinman, only 10 more days!!

I drove up and did the bike course this past Saturday.  I found the first 20% of the course to be a little rough, and also had most of the step inclines.   After that the road is VERY smooth and fast.  Then of course on the way back you hit those rough roads and hills.

Overall I didn't find it that bad, but the weather never stays the same, had cold, hot, wind, rain, only thing that was missing was snow.

Just an update! The Tupper Lake Tinman course is being set up! As of 6/17 the bike racks and some of the corrals were set up, I'm hoping the bouys will be set today but it is raining. I have decided not to do the half tinman this year but will do my first mini tri in Lake placid monday evening 400 yd swim , 13 mile bike and 5k run.... Good luck to everyone in the Tinman!

Bigtalon, let me know if you see the swim course set up. I have a new wetsuit I'd like to get a swim in before the race and would like to travel over that way Monday or Tuesday (days off) to get a good swim in and a feel for the (cold) water. Have yet to do an open water swim here in Watertown.....nowhere to do it unless I want to swim in the St Lawrence channel with the frieghters!

Also am wondering about tire choice. I have a used set of zipp clinchers on my wheelset right now, but got a gift of two veloflex record open tubulars, but am unsure if the road is too rough for them. Any input?!

Can't wait for race day!

The swim buoys are in place as of today 6/24/09. The swim course has changed shape this year the swim is a big rectangle not triangular like last year. The sprint is to the big buoy then across to the other big buoy and back to the exit.

I swam the sprint distance Thursday night... only problem I had were the whitecaps I'm not used to that. Once I turned the corner It was much better. I would have to guess I was in the water close to 30 minutes.

I rode the sprint bike course beautiful morning here! I estimate the 18 miles took around 1:15 slight head wind on the way out but on the way back you can really fly!

Good luck to everyone!!!
