Got my registration in, but I need 2 rooms for Saturday night and I'm having trouble finding something with reasonable rates.  Any suggestions, anyone?

Last year I stayed at the Motel 6 in Galveston. It was about 10 minutes away, but it was relatively cheap and had a clean bed. That was about all I needed. When I'm by myself like I was last year, I'm not too picky.

I got halfway decent rates at the Quality Inn (relatively speaking); you can try them out...

It's 3/4 full. Depends on how you define 'time'

Was in Galveston all day yesterday. Heading there again right now, to drive the new bike course with the Police

Thanks! It turns out I did have time, I took the plunge and registered yesterday

Thanks for the suggestions, folks.  I got a couple of good rooms at the Comfort Suites on Seawall.  Should do me just fine!  Looking forward to seeing you all there.....

am considering it again this year. Have done it the last two years and enjoyed every minute of it. Ran the sprint last two years. Thinking about doing the 1/4 this year. Only problem is that it is on Sunday and I pastor a church so there could be some conflict there. But I might try to work out getting that Sunday off.

Hey Keith, you know you're putting on a good race when the Pastor skips church to make it!

When thinking about lodging, I know USAT offers a 15% discount to it's members at Comfort Suites and Quality Inn (I just saw that some folks had made reservations at those...).  I got the discount code at the last race I did, let me know if anyone wants me to try and dig it out of my packet...

Getting so excited for this race!  Everyone start praying for warm weather and low humidity NOW...

and, for those of you concerned about debris in the road for the bike course. TX D.O.T. is going to sweep the course for us.

We also just rented a road sweeper, and we'll sweep it ourselves. So it'll be swept twice, just to make sure it's nice and clean for everyone. If you see a sweeper going by Friday afternoon when you show up, stop by and say "Hi". I'm guessing I'll be elected to drive it

Due to issues with being able to find a pool where I could go swimming (I was able to start swimming last week...first time since October) plus the fact that I have been so busy at work... my training has been terrible.  I started my usual pre-event freakout last week...and I started asking around for people to relay the quarter with me...with me doing just the swim and bike but could not find a runner.  I'm not even positive when to cutoff to change this would be...it could be too late, but that's where I am right now.  I am excited to see other BTers I haven't seen seen last year....

All that to say if you know of anyone that MIGHT be interested in doing the run for this, send me a PM.

Not trying to send out any negative vibes at all...I am VERY excited about this event!

Does anyone know if any part of the swim course will be open on Saturday?  I saw in the athletes guide it will be open on Friday?  Thanks

I believe Keith noted in another thread that the course will be open after the sprint is completed but that the Galveston Beach Patrol will be setting the course for the quarter/half Saturday afternoon.

Whoever from BT is the 2nd BT'er across the finish line has to buy me pizza and beer.

I'm getting ready to race! Haven't done a multisport race since Ironstar.. I don't like going several months with no racing! I can't do as much trash talking when I'm not racing constantly..

If anyone's interested in a BT early dinner get together, check out the Lone Star Dinner thread....right now the idea is to look at doing the hosted Palm Beach luau, but we'd have to reserve with Keith soon--so chime in with your thoughts!

I offered to buy you beer and pizza before the race but you turned it down. I wasn't even gonna make you SBR for it, you could drop out for all I care

Aw, no worries you'll do great!  I'll be on the lookout.  Sorry you missed Ike, though, the replacement duathlon was a pleasant surprise that morning!!!  I won't lie, I cheered when they said "no swim."

Am I just asking for a sunburn if I attempt to the bike and run shirtless?  I just don't know if I can afford to buy something else (starving grad student)

You can either get a completely sunburned uppbody (shirtlesS)
or
You can get funny tan lines/sunburns (tri top)

the choice is yours!

tougher choice then you'd think it should be, I guess the third option would be my cycling top but then I have to worry about the awkward T1 struggle
