Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes

Since $ is the major concern (rightly so), I'll share w/you my new-found "secret". In late November, I purchased a pair of Keyanos, my preferred shoes, at a bargain! Obviously, running shoe prices are slashed b/c (1) the race season is over &/or (2) because the new & "improved" models are due early January or sometime thereafter. I plan on using the shoes I have now & come middle of the training season, I'll start using my shiny new Asics (which were cheaper than 2130's). So long as you store the shoes in a dark cool place, I'm telling you... it's genius! My big middle finger to big corporations.

But no, I also haven't tried the UA shoes. I'd be reluctant to follow anyone's advise as the shoes haven't really been tested & the posts can be done by UA reps!

I have been running in a pair for 2 weeks.  I like them so far, but 2 weeks is not a lot of time.  I usually wear brooks and the ua compare in price.  I will update review as I log more miles.

They were given to the pace group leaders at the Baltimore marathon to wear.  From what I read they all had good things to say about them FWIW.

I think like any shoe you have to try it out to see how it feels on you.

I actually tried out the stability model at the Houston Marathon Expo.  I'm an Asics Kayano guy, but the UA really impressed me - really light and form fitting!  I'm all good on shoes right now though - and am kinda eying the new Kayano 15 if I need a new pair.

One of their principal developers is a guy named Chris Brewer who I worked with at Fila (he came from Mizuno before that). The shoes he developed at Fila got good reviews but were horribly marketed and never caught on so Brewer left and Fila dropped their running program. I haven't worn the UA's, but some of the stuff I've read suggests that they incorporate some of the stuff that worked well from the Fila shoes like the plastic cradle around the heel. So, they've got a solid pedigree, I guess--they're not just making crappy shoes and slapping a logo on them; I actually think they're trying to make a running shoe for runners.

Another triathlete who worked with UA in developing these shoes is Jessi Stensland.

UA had a trailer at the Dick's in Columbia Maryland yesterday. I stopped in and tried on the shoes and got the whole story about them. I'm normally a New Balance guy but picked up a pair of the Apparitions. I figure it's early in the season so I would try them out. The prices seem to be in line with most other shoes.
I'm doing my first run in them tomorrow.

I had heard some podcasts and read some other articles about the shoes so I was curious about them when they came out.

I was surprised to see that they have a trail model also. I'm training for a 50K in March so I'm a little leary about trying a new trail shoe at this point.

I have a pair of their cross-trainers. I bought them because they are shaped just like my (weird ) feet. In addition to being stylin', they are comfortable and sturdy and don't aggravate my plantar fasciitis. So, I'm happy.

I've 2 runs of 10 miles and 6 miles in my new shoes. So far so good.
One thing I've noticed is that the "foot sleeve" keeps my foot from sliding forward in the toe box. Usually after about 10 miles my toes are sore from the pounding. Anything over 15 miles in my NB shoes and the black toenails start. I didn't have that problem with these shoes.

Also, the are definitely for heal strikers. That's where most of the cushioning seems to be located.
