Member 587 | Subject: Under Armour Running Shoes Anybody have a pair that they are using to train/race? I generally stay clear of this brand, unless I can get it at a great price. Which happens to be the case in this situation. Just looking for anybody's experience. Did the shoes last, wear well, good performance, feel, etc, etc. Thanks. |

Champion 7821 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes If I'm not mistaken, this is their first season selling running footwear, so I don't think anyone's had much experience with them. |

Champion 34263 Chicago | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes I'm not a huge UA fan. People buy it because of the name and the cool commercials, but you can get the same thing from Nike or Reebok or other companies for half the price or less. My guess is it's the same with the shoes. I wear only Asics Gel Landreth for running. I'm a brand-loyal person, I guess. |

Pro 4528 Norwalk, Connecticut | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes I got the new Eastbay catalog and was looking at them also, their shoes for stability are the same price or 10-15 bucks cheaper than the New Balance i wear, and i like the colors alot better. I may buy a pair and give them a shot.

Extreme Veteran 1030 West Windsor, NJ | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes How much experience can this brand have with running shoes? I would steer clear. When it comes to running shoes (and your potential for injuries)...Go with proven names and brands for now. ASICS is my choice. Brooks would be my second. |

Pro 5169 Burbs | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes Maybe it's because I'm a Terp, and the guys that founded the company went to Maryland but I like UA. I don't find their gear any pricer than Nike [actually, I've found it's sometimes cheaper]. I like their tights, sports bras, and compression tops. As far as their running shoes go --- I haven't heard anything, and although this is a company that is new to running shoes, I'm sure they did their research/ testing. Nike was once a new shoe company too! |

Master 3546 Millersville, MD | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes Don't quote me on this, but I believe UA paid some big $$ to hire some of the best minds in shoe design to come work for them to put out a line of shoes that was not crap. I stopped by a local foot locker the other day just to check them out, and they were back ordered! |

30 | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes How much do you run? I like UA stuff, and I'm sure they put a lot of design work into their shoes, but I wonder if they are designed for people who put a lot of miles in. After all, their slogan is "Athletes Run" or something like that, which makes me think that these were designed more for athletes who run a few miles at a time, a couple of times a week, to train for other sports. Of course, if you can get them for a good price, I'd say go for it and give us a review. |

Davenport, IA | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes I'd put this in the same category as a lot of new products: Let's see how they're doing after they've been out for a year. I'd rather let someone else be the beta tester.
Good luck if you do decide to go ahead with them. |

Master 1826 | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes Have not used or even seen them in person. They were released 1/31/09. I think there will definitely be growing pains entering a new sector. I don't remember the exact companies, but I believe that UA hiring lead engineers/designers from Saucony and Mizuno. So I think they are putting money into this. I also read on ST that 40 of the 50 pacers at Baltimore Marathon this year wore them, and the reviews were extremely positive. So I would say time will tell. |

Pro 6767 the Alabama part of Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes I haven't tried them, but if the deal is really good, it might be worth trying them. Their approach in general to their product line is pretty sound, and as others have said, they brought in people for more well-known brands. And for what it's worth, I think even the known names can screw up. I have used Saucony's for something like 20 years. I recently replaced my fall shoes with the same size (a different model, but I have never been too finicky about the model). The toe box was almost an inch longer! I didn't size them at the store, and ended up making a second trip to exchange them. It made no sense to me, why they would change their last. Anyway, if the cost is really good, get them, and test them on a treadmill for a few miles, paying close attention to how they affect your foot. Doesn't speak to long term use, but at least you will have an idea about whether they are for running or running errands. |

Of course, if you can get them for a good price, I'd say go for it and give us a review. I have NO idea what was real research and what was veiled marketing hype, but at the '07 UA Baltimore Marathon they had a setup there where they were doing 3D scanning of runners feet for design purposes. They also took background info, such as height, weight, running frequency, miles, etc. It was very cool, to say the least. In '08 they had samples of the new shoes. I tried on a pair, and they seemed OK, but I've had an ITB issue in the past and am very wary of going away from what I know works for me (Acics GT-21x0). Almost all of my other running apparel is UA, and I greatly prefer it over their competitors. |

Elite 2515 Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes I've got a friend who's a UA sponsored runner (a sub-3:00 marathoner and high mileage guy) and has been wear testing since October. Here's his take: "I've had them since October. They are very nice, but not perfect for my feet, as I pronate and supinate! But they have a footsleeve instead of a tongue, and they keep your feet wicked dry! They look cool too...if you're into that! I think they will do well with the line, and will just get better!" |

They are marketing to anyone who runs. At least they are not out to alienate the weekend warrior, like PI did/does. That being said I don't buy UA. Way too pricey. |

Of course, he's paid the big bucks to say so, but I don't think he would train in them if he didn't really like them. |

Extreme Veteran 495 Denton | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes Cheap shoes are definitely tempting... but if you're logging big miles, I would stick with what you know. However, I can confidently say that their other running gear - i.e. shorts, tops, etc. is AWESOME! They make my favorite running shorts in the world, and I don't say that lightly |

Maybe they are good shoes...just from the pictures I've seen though, it looks like the heels are a little high, which is not my personal taste, so I think I would avoid them personally. |

Cycling Guru 15134 Fulton, MD | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes Haven't tried them, but in most instances runners are very brand loyal. I run in Saucony for my training shoes and my Zoot's for racing. As was mentioned, they have had a big presence at the Baltimore Marathon because they have sponsored it for the last 5 years and are a Baltimore based company. That is why Macca and Jesse raced in the Columbia tri last year since they also sponsor that. I would imagine that they put a lot of thought and design into the shoes. But as i said, I'm already brand loyal to another company ...... so have yet to even slip them on even though I'm also a Terp and MD guy. |

Expert 640 Sun Prairie, WI | Subject: RE: Under Armour Running Shoes I just read an article about UA running shoes in either Forbes or Fortune. UA have made big strides jumping into the running shoe market. However the professionals in the running shoe business they contacted for the artivle were not overly impressed with the shoes. Basically they are still behind others who have been in the business for years. They did anticipate that they will be raising their game and would be more competitive in the future. Greg |
