Question for anyone who's done the race before.  Did any of you pass your bag/wetsuit to a friend/family member in T1?  It sounds like there is a fence...is it low enough for a very short person to hoist?  and was it easy enough to do?

Thanks!  Good luck everyone!

Yep, I passed stuff to my hubby, no problems.  I'm 5'3" and there plenty of clearance

Does anybody have anymore detailed info on Athlete Tracking? The Ironmanlive.com link they posted goes straight to ironman.com. Maybe this only works on race day? How exactly does this work? Does it just send/post splits as we cross timing mats or does it show position information as we are out on course like I have read about at some other races?

Thanks,

Scott

First post here but I've been lurking on this thread along with the one that was dedicated to this year's Wildflower Long Course.

I have a question about T2. The day before, when you drop your shoes off, do you put them in a certain spot within the transition area in a bag or do you put them on the ground (making sure you remember exactly where of course), put a towel over them (good suggestion I read here), and simply come back to them on Sunday? This whole 2 transition area concept has thrown me for a loop. Smile

I'm looking forward to seeing how Vineman compares to the wf long course. I'm all trained up identically as I was for WF and I want to see how the times compare.

thanks!

Rob,

Just as reference, I'm expecting to go about 30 min. faster at Vineman than WF LC.  Safe to say both the bike and run are waaaaay easier.

Wonderful ... thanks for the heads up. Wasn't sure what to think would be a realistic number ... if I can do that my day will be made.

good luck to you!

For further reference:  I went 5:36 at Vineman last summer and 6:23 at WF this spring.  No comparison, especially the run courses...two completely different animals (I did 1:48 for Vineman, 2:17 for WF).

Yup--I think that is more than fair.  Also, the hills on the bike are flat compared to WF.

Anyone who did Vineman 70.3 yesterday. How was the water temp? I was think of wearing my swimskin for the full in two weeks instead of a wetsuit.

I did not hear what the water temp was, but I did the swim in my tri-suit, no problems.  I was never cold in the water, even for the few minutes treading water waiting for the starting gun.  In fact if I had a wetsuit on, I think I would have felt too warm!

when I was checking in on Sat around 3 they said it was 76.5 after starting the day around 75 or so. not sure about the actual day of the race but it wasn't even remotely uncomfortable ... felt warm walking into it at 7:10

It was very warm. At 6:00 AM yesterday, I'm pretty sure they said 76 degrees.

Great day.  Great race.  I hope all did well and stayed hydrated.  Here is an update on what was the scariest thing I have ever seen on a race.

I wore a full wetsuit and wished I hadn't. The water was absolutly perfect for a non-wetsuit swim. This has to have been the most beautiful swim I have ever done-everytime I rolled my head for a breath, I got an eyefull of soaring redwoods and sunshine. The run, that was a whole differnt thing..felt like a run down the highway to hell.

I also wore a full wetsuit and I don't remember feeling to hot. I let a little bit of water in around my neck just before the start and felt fine for the rest of the swim. I like the suit for the extra lift in the legs and the boost in speed. I pulled off a 32.5 minute swim, so something worked right. But everybodys right, you could go without and be just fine. Also, I agree, this has got to be the most beautiful swim for a race that there can be.

Hey Scott,

I clocked the very same on the swim (32:30) wearing my wetsuit and I ended up happy of choosing to race with it And I second that this was the most beautiful swim ever. I started in the second wave and the sun was just coming up behind the huge redwoods, while the fog was lifting from the water. Absolutely stunning! It would have been a perfect race if it were not for the freak tree accident...

thanks for the link ... the Mercury News just had limited information. I got there just when the first ambulance did and was motioned under the tree and through to the clear road. Unfortunately I've got zero medical training so couldn't really help out. I only saw one of the guys walking around with a broken collarbone but then came across someone a couple of miles down the road who had stopped and was bracing his arm so I'm not sure if he tried to continue but had to stop later.

I definitely was never expecting anything like that to happen.

FYI--I heard from a friend whose family owns the beach that the rider pinned under the tree is doing well and is planning on racing next year.   That is amazing!!!
