Subject: Something to do in Albuquerque?

Hi I'm from Illinois and I'll be in Albuquerque at the end of the month for the Fiery Foods Show. Looks like I'll have some time to poke around Monday before my flight home

Any suggestions?

Also how Big/small is airport? As in how long to get through security on a Monday afternoon. O'Hare can be ridiculous but El PAso a snap, so? ......

Its much more like El Paso than O'Hare.

There is a "square" area downtown, walky-shopy, etc. There is a restaurant close to REI, I forget what it is called, I went there last month and it was good! Nothing fancy, good southwestern food and it was crowded with locals.

The REI store is good, right on 25 N. Great hiking and such, but thats probably not on the agenda for a Monday evening.

Abq airport is small and you won't wait long at all at security.  Now, what do you want to do Moday?  You could go for a run along the Bosque or run some great trails in the foothills.  We have some great places to eat New Mexican food and shop.  I guess it depends how much time you have, but there are plenty of things for you to do.  Let me know and I'll help you out.

Thanks everyone,

We'll be near the Sandia Casino for the show, Not knowing geography only mileage it looks like we won't even rent a car as taxi should be fine between airport/hotel and hotel/casino.

Will be with the DW so unlikely will be any running occuring - thinking about an early morning trip onthe tram and kicking around in the city center.

Again - I'm ignorant - is the city center a walkable area? DIstance between tram and city?

Taxi availability?

Our flight is at 1:55 I figure if we get there by 12:15 we should be fine - carry on only.

The tram is a great idea, but plan on taking two hours or so (longer is ok too, but you won't be able to do it much faster). Down town area (called Old Town) is walkable with lots of stores and a plaza area, but you'll have to drive there from the Casino.

As for Taxi's, we have them but you'll always have to call to have one come pick you up (except at the airport). And if you're planning on traveling from the airport to Sandia Casino, to the Tram, to downtown, and back, I think you'd perhaps save money renting a small car.

The city is actually pretty spread out. The tram is not too far from Sandia Casino, the tram is far north east part of the city, casino is far north, downtown is southwest, and airport is far south.

Enjoy, Albuquerque is a great place!

Hey there.. Just got back - really enjoyed our time there though a good portion was on our feet pushing Product.

In retrospect there was really no way for me to run. The altitude was killing me as it was, and frankly after 10+ hour days standing in a booth I was in no condidtion to run. As we drove around saw plenty of roadies - made me jealous that you have such a great place to ride!

DW and I did hit Old Town before our flight yesterday and enjoyed it. Wished we had more time to poke around..maybe next time.

Thanks &  Happy Racing!

Well, I'm glad you enjoyed your trip! I totally forgot about the elevation. It's normal for me as I've lived in the mountain west a good portion of my life, but people don't realized sometimes that Albuquerque is at 5,000-6,000 feet in elevation (depending on where you are in the city). Everyone thinks of Denver as being such a high city, but Albuquerque is just as high, and higher in places.

Too bad you couldn't get a run in, the weather has been incredible here these past few weeks. But glad you enjoyed yourself.
