Subject: Garmin - more satellites?

My Garmin used to take 2-7 minutes to load.  I'd have to take it outside, set it on the ground and wait until it was ready to go.

Now I can turn it on in my house and it's ready to go in less than 20 seconds.

A wonderful thing, of course, but anyone have any idea why??

I've noticed the same thing. I used to set it out on the front porch while I was getting ready, now I just turn it on and it locks on a satellite while I'm inside.

I noticed that as well today. I just thought it was a fluke. Hopefully it stays this way.

Funny. I had just the opposite happen this morning. My 405 took much longer than usual to pick up enough sats.

When it finally picked up all it needed...nothing changed. I am still as slow as dog-poo.

I find that if you use it in the same area again and again it does pick up the satelite much quikcer

I called them and asked them to please improve the service because I don't like waiting... your welcome

Ding ding ding!  You win the prize.  The number of satellites maintained by the DOD is around 24 at all times.  (As some go out of service, they are replaced.)  The chipset in the Garmin (and other GPS appliances, typically) is better able to find the satellites if it hasn't been (significantly) moved since the last time it looked.  Weather, terrain, time of day, and your mother's maiden name also affect its ability to lock onto the requisite number of signals (usually 4).
