Has anyone done the double?  This years chicago is Aug. 30, Marathon Oct. 11.

I really want to do the Olympic tri, but obviously the Chicago marathon is one of the most popular marathons.  With the tri only 6-7 weeks before the marathon, should I do it? Training is not a problem as I am going very well for the Illinois marathon training right now, as well as putting in some sessions on the bike.

I just do not want to miss registration for both just in case.

This all depends on your base. How long have you been doing triathlons and marathons? Have you done an Olympic distance before. I think it is very doable. I have done 2 Half Ironman/Chicago marathon doubles and have not had a problem. The biggest issue for me is motivation to continue training. I sometimes wanna kick back after the HIM and do the things I have been neglecting all summer. I would go for it if you have a good base and history.

As has been said, I think it is very doable depending on your base.  I plan on doing both this year and know a ton of people who have done both in previous years.  I think the biggest factor for me is going to be motivation to keep training and avoiding the mental burnout.  I'm doing IMCDA in June as well.  To keep training for the Marathon and some Tri's after that will be a challenge for me.  Good luck in your upcoming marathon and training this summer.

C'mon you can do it, based on what you're saying. I did a HIM and two marathons in a five-week span last year. You can totally do this.

I did my first oly at the Chicago tri 2 years ago and I dnf chicago marathon which is the only marathon I ever dnf at.  This was Chicago 2007 and maybe people dnfed.  Plus I felt great that day so yeah maybe it was not because of the chicago tri.

I think you can do both.   You may not have the best marathon or tri time you could have not sure you will lose that much either.  Have been people who trained for a marathon completely on a bike due to injury.  If you added in swimming and bike/run enough to cover the marathon training I think you will be more than fine and probably ahead of the game.

I did the Triple Challenge last year and also ran the marathon....Recovery from Oly is only a day or two max. Very easy to hop right back into marathon training.

i'm in a similar situation.  Doing Steelhead on august 1st and chicago olympic the last weekend in august.  It's going to be so hard recovering from steelhead and not totally dropping all of my fitness before the end of the month.

A friend is still trying to talk me into doing the marathon but i don't know.  I just don't know.

In 2007 I did HIM in June and July and an ultra marathon mid August with the Chicago Oly at the end of the month.  Chicago Marathon was no big deal after that except it was 2007.

I am planning on doing IMWI and the Chicago Marathon.  That will be 5 weeks apart.  No problem.  Last year BTer Steve- did Louisville IM and IMWI on consecutive weekends.  So is it doable?  Yes.

Can you do it?  That depends on your motivation and training base.  Since you have been been training for the Illinois Marathon you probably will have enough fitness/base to complete both.  How fast you will do the marathon is another story.

I am planning on just having fun at the marathon.  There is too much blocking there to be able to run it fast.

I would think you would be fine after the IM to at least finish the marathon.  Even though I beat someone who did IMMoo last the marathon is still fun and its one of those races its not that big of deal to do well.  Its more about the experience of the city and the crowds than time anyways.

The Chicago triathlon olympic distance was my first triathlon ever. I completed in 2006. The same year I also ran the Chicago marathon. In 2008 I ended up participating in Steelhead HIM, Chicago tri Oly, and the Chicago marathon. I would say it is not a problem. Just try to keep yourself motivated.

I'll be doing both the international distance and my first marathon this year. I think it shouldn't be a problem. I signed up for the marathon first and decided to squeeze the Chicago tri in last minute.

I can do a sprint tri and race the next weekend no problem, for me it is less demanding than a half marathon. An olympic takes a little more recovery, but as long as I can get my 20 milers in before the marathon I will be in good shape.
