Extreme Veteran  557  |  Subject: Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official ThreadI was thinking about doing a HIM this year, thought about it back and forth back and forth and figured why not...this is my first season "tri" racing I have a running / cycling background and just need the swimming now. I heard about this one and thought, why not first year its avaible just pull the trigger! |

Im doing 40 miles then 3 mile run on Sat then long runs 8-15 on Sundays. Im doing a half marathon in Mar so that is why the longer runs. Im trying to get my butt in the pool more than once a week. Good luck with your training. |

Unfortunatley I come from a swimming and mtn biking background only. I'm wasn't a runner, but am really starting to enjoy it. That's one of the reasons why I'm doing this..... to get out of my comfort zone and push myself. Good luck with everyone's training. I've got my first Oly in April too. |

You can check out this elevation profile http://www.ironmanaugusta.com/filemgmt_data/files/bikeelevationmap.pdf which comes directly from the Augusta 70.3 site. The roads are smooth but not new. |

I've probably worked harder on the swiming than anything but now focusing more on the running and balancing the bike which is more natural for me. 45 days after this doing the Beach 2 Battleship in NC HIM...if any of you don't know about thos one, check it out, it's flat, with the current, and it's simply a day at the beach! Regardless I am excited to meet everyone and wish you all the best of luck in training! |

Extreme Veteran 504 SW Florida Gulf Coast | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread My husband and I will both be doing this race... first HIM for both of us. This is my 2nd year competing in triathlon and his first year. We live in FL and tri season has been in full swing for us for a while now. We've both got a few sprints on the agenda leading up the Augusta and we're following up Augusta with a season ending Oly in November (sort of backwards, I know). Looks like we'll be taking a few trips to the center of our state to complete some hill work. Most of FL is so darn flat; very difficult to get any sort of hill training in. |

Just hope its not to much for the 2 loop bike course. This will be my second 70.3 of the summer after Fla 70.2 in 2 weeks. Going long this year with two 70.3's 4 Oly's and 3 Sprints. I have been dealing with achilles tendinitis for the past two to three months so I took it easy. I've been going to PT since Tuesday. Since my race last week, I had not done anything except let my achilles and mind rest until yesterday when I jumped in the pool for 1K and hopped on the bike for 40 mins today. Good luck Cube. What were your overall thoughts on Langley? |

Other then thinking the swim was long (as in not the right distance) and having to pull yourself up on the dock to exit the water (why couldnt we just run back up the beach?) I thought the race was good. I was using it as a training day with some interval work mixed in keeping the HR at 85% max all day. Really felt good after and liked the last 6 miles of the bike course...fun going 42mph downhill. Best of luck at Augusta. The wife and I are planning on coming over again in July to ride the 70.3 course, keep a lookout for the dates, would like to get as many BTers together for the ride as possible. FM |

I was all set to destroy my PR at St. Anthony's this year but due to weather (the swim was cancelled) and other factors that didn't happen, DNS. Now all my efforts are focused on September. It will be my second HIM. I did the 5430 long course last summer in Boulder. I was not in good shape then. I finished but it was super slow. My coach and I think I can PR by more than an hour! (It helps that I lost 20+ lbs). The only tough part is training for the hills here in flat Tampa Bay. I'm planning on doing an Oly in Luray, VA in August. Anyone else doing that one? |
