I had an easter egg in our wedding. For those of you that don't know, an easter egg is a hidden feature or supprise in a game or DVD movie.

I had the pastor read the lines from the wedding scene in Princess Bride. It was not until the next day that my Best Man's wife realised what was said. She is the only one that caught it and thought that it was a really neat supprise for those that paid attention.

Look at yourself as often as you can in the mirror.  I didn't do that enough.

Have the photographer take photos of the details in your dress and of your hair, and bouquet.

Have someone you trust and knows what they're doing, do up your bustle.

One of the most fun parts was, in the middle of the evening, we had arranged for the DJ to pass out lyrics and we all sang two Irish "drinking" songs.  It was hysterical. I think/hope everyone enjoyed that part.

Oh, I guess I should mention the ceremony.  That was my favorite part as a whole and is still so emotional I can't even talk about it...but that was definitely the best part from start to finish.

It poured cats and dogs on my wedding day, so I was a trooper.  Once the ceremony started, it didn't matter.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

The most recent wedding I attended was my god-brother's (i.e. my mom's godson.) The couple put together a slide show of pictures of them growing up through the years, since they were babies. It was particularly touching because my bro's dad passed when bro was pretty young. We got all teary eyed looking at the pictures. Bro all grown up!!

congrats Chippy!

The best thing we did was to ditch the elaborate plans we had made and just have a little outdoor ceremony by a little outdoor chuch in the middle of nowhere.  Seriously, look up Hortonville, IN.  All of the stress and the bills just weren't worth it.  My wife made the cake, my uncle did the photography and our music was my laptop hooked up to my home theater system.

It was seriously so simple, there wasn't nothing to go wrong.  It was a little warm and humid (July in Indiana), but it didn't matter.  The only hickup was the wind prevented us from actually lighting the candles.

Probably the coolest moment, was as we were standing up there, saying our vows, a pair of humming birds came out of nowhere to eat at the flowers we had on either side of us.  Neither of us actually saw them (I vaguely remember hearing them), but for a pair of bird lovers, that was pretty cool.

Not having to do any of that wedding crap!  Walked into the court house a 'Miss' and walked out with a new last name and a ring.  Married in khaki pants.  No muss, no fuss.

The only thing I remember was my heart beating so fast I almost fell over.  I'm pretty sure my husband had a death grip on me.  One to hold me up and one so I didn't run away.

To be honest, I called off the wedding a year before because I was just over whelmed with all the wedding planning crapola.  Too much pressure to do what others wanted, not what we wanted.

The post ceremony pizza of course....   On a side note, we were so hungry at the hotel that evening that I really did walk across 6th street in Austin and got us some pizza.  :D

We did have a music glitch though, and the 20th century fox theme started playing about the time my wife was walking down the aisle...makes us laugh every time we see a 20th century fox movie.  Laughing

I'd say the ELOPING part of the wedding really made it enjoyable.  No complications.  Like the Staples commercial.  Just hit the EASY button.  Of course, getting married on a beach in Kauai was pretty nice, too.

The whole day was great. We spent a lot of time working on our ceremony, and got so many complements on it and we loved it. My father gave the homily. He normally gives very short homilies at weddings, but decided to give the longest homily of his life that day - he just had too much to say. We still give him crap about it. The ceremony was long, but beautiful.

Our reception was a blast - we had to make an effort to talk to everyone, but it was worth it. We danced the night away with our friends and family. Also, I am a huge cake fan, and our cake was fantastic.

I have played piano and/or organ at over 150 weddings and have seen it all. My advice - something will go wrong, just go with the flow. You can try to control every detail, but it isn't worth it. Have fun planning it, but don't get so involved you drive yourself (and everyone else) crazy.

Just remember that know one will remember what color the napkins were. There are two aspects to planning. One is organizing the events. This is fairly important for things to run smoothly. Do be diligent in planning, but realize you will have to be flexible on the big day. The second part is the decorative details. Don't waste to much energy on this. It just doesn't matter that much. It's you and your future husband and all the people you share the day with that matter.

As far as my wedding, I enjoyed the whole thing.

Seeing my wife for the first time in her dress was awesome. That was the only point where I almost cried. Neither of us actually cried, we ended up giggling through the entire ceremony.

After dinner, while they were serving cake, we walked around and tried to talk to everyone. There were plenty of people dancing so any table we went to, I sat down at an empty seat and ate the cake that was there while my wife talked. That was the highlight of the reception for me . Our caked rocked!

We had one upset, that I still feel bad for getting upset about. We had made a cd of our favorite songs that we wanted the DJ to play and he didn't have (couple small local bands). I had tasked my sister with bringing it and she lost it somewhere. I got upset. But realized it didn't matter. But not before I made my sister feel lousy. I apologized and told her I really didn't care within 5 minutes of finding out it was lost, but I still regret getting upset at all.

Unless he doesn't show, or says no, nothing that goes wrong really matters. You still get married and you'll look back and laugh about the small stuff that went wrong so why worry about it when it happens.

To borrow from PeterAK's post:

"For those of you who need to post about your divorce in THIS thread, that's not cool.  I'm sorry it didn't work out for you.  This is not the place to post about it."

Come on folks, give Chippy a break...

My favorite 2 parts.

1. Getting married to my wife and bringing Mrs. D.Z. home with me that night.

2. The middle of the reception where I planted 3 songs that will probably never be heard in a wedding again.

a. Firestarter, the Prodigy
b. Breathe, the Prodigy
c. Chemical Brothers (name of song is escaping me)

It was AWESOME and I totally let loose.

This is a key point. Don't let others dictate the day for you. It's YOUR day. If they aren't happy with it, well, remind them that it's your day. I insisted that I walk down the isle, and I did. I decided that I wasn't going to be a prop, like a guy in a porn. I wanted my center stage as it was my day too. I think my wife and I were the only one's that noticed, but that's okay.

The first time: my FLOWERS, the dress, and the venue; two things we did that were unusual and interesting, the greeting line 'ribbon', bridesmaid charms.

The second time: the early morning Makena Beach, cool sand, calm ocean, very small gathering, then breakfast---it was perfect.

btw second time stuck and was much more intimate and meaningful, partially 'cause of us, partially 'cause there was less hoopla

Our first wedding (civil ceremony at the Gallatin courthouse):  being married by a gun-wielding deputy who happened to be an ordained minister and he performed a traditional religious ceremony from memory.  He could not say either of our names correctly but it was so special and I love that it was a memory that we created and continue to share completely alone.  My advice:  find something special that will be just your memory on your wedding day.  That sacred "story" will be something you tell over and over again, but more importantly, it will allow you to keep the two of you in the forefront of an otherwise crazy day!

Our second "wedding" (beachside service with our family):  the wedding part was odd--a hippie woman was the officiant and smelled strongly of marijuana.  But, the weekend with Parker, my sister and brother-in-law, and my parents was incredible.  We have wonderful pictures (my advice:  definitely get some of you and Stake's daughter alone because those will be the most treasured by your hubby) and we had a wonderfully expensive decadent meal that I will never be able to afford again but it really topped off the night.

The best part of either wedding...and it is still the best part of my life every day:  My husband's wedding band.  I still play with it on his ring finger constantly and it always brings tears to my eyes to know that I was lucky enough to marry the man of my dreams.

Guys, this is great stuff! Thanks so much for sharing your stories with me -- It's great to hear what you remember from your weddings and what was important to you. We're excited to get married, excited to celebrate with family and friends, but don't want to lose the plot, so to speak. This thread has been fun to read, and very helpful.

Thanks!

Thought you weren't going to get all caught up in it? Those magazines will break you down!

That being said, I was too drunk to remember about 1/2 my reception and my mom had to pretty much carry me out. I spend the night in the bathroom.

Don't drink a bottle of Dom before. Then have an open bar. Not good for anyone.

As you know, I loved my divorce!

I'm with Marvanett (Dan's a pretty smart guy sometimes).  Here's what's important:

You say: "I do."
He/She says: "I do."
The pastor says: "You are..."

Get the form signed.  Everything else is really just an opportunity for something to go wrong.

We planned the whole thing in about an hour and a half over breakfast, She had waffles, I had country style steak and wet fries. We wrote the plan on about 3 pages of a legal pad. If it wasn't on the pad, it didn't happen. The only bit of consternation about this is that we did not invite my step-mother's parents, she was a little miffed, but got over it. We had lots of opportunities to get caught up in the whole over-the-top-dealio, but stuck to the pad. The whole deal (it was small) ended up costing about $500.

Pig roast, bluegrass band, kegs for reception, outdoors, family only.

We had a big blowout party for our friends separately beforehand. Many of our friends/family would have frightened each other, 'twas better that way.

The best part is that we're married.
