"Most of the stripers are in the upper rivers. Look for them in the early morning and late evening to be up on the banks and flats."

Unfortunately, we are in the lower section.

On the 10th, temp was 58.  It's getting up there!

I'm going to officially jinx the weekend by posting this link, but I'm doing it anyway.

If the temp only drops to 49 overnight on Saturday, and the winds diminish shifting from West to East, we are going to have awesome race conditions for the sprint on Sunday.  I'm not racing Saturday, so I don't really care about you guys.

This morning, the weather for the Sprint (4/19) said 70, overcast and 0% chance of rain. That's what I like to hear! Though having the sun come out would make up for the fact that the lake is currently only at 58 degrees

At least you'll be racing, and not standing there jockstrapping in the pouring rain on crutches, wearing a waterlogged Achilles boot that now weighs 20 pounds instead of 10.

Heh - if it rains, I might be standing with you PS - I will be bringing my fold-up camp chair (for extra seats in the Team Z tent on Saturday), so you can have it on Sunday during the race.

I am really nervous now. This is my first tri and I keep having random questions pop into my head daily. So, one quick question, does anyone know if we need to get our bike and helmet checked before the race? Is this checked the day of, or the day before the race? I am so nervous about the weather, about my own ability, about my gear... ah!!!

No you don't have to get any of your gear checked.  They might go through transition and make sure any bar ends are plugged up on your bike but haven't seen them do anything more than that.

Take a deep breath and don't worry about the things you can't control.  Just go out and have fun.

I don't remember there being anything about having our bikes or helmets officially checked for this race. Just make sure that the bar-plugs are in the ends of your handlebars, as they can penalize you for that. If you have a regular bike helmet that you purchased from a bike store in the recent past, it probably meets the code requirements for safety. Just as long as it's not noticeably damaged/dented, etc. (In fact, if something happens to your helmet, you should always get a new one)

Last year the same people put on the Giant Acorn so I'll talk from that experience.

They never formally looked at anything. No bike check in, no helmet inspection.

If you bought your helmet at a retail store, LBS or Wal-Mart, and it's not been hit and is not cracked, it's probably okay.
If your bike has brakes that work, bar end plugs and all the pieces are on it, it's probably okay.

It's the same course as Giant Acorn (except, the bike leg might be in reverse, I think). And yes, SetUp Events doesn't usually do bike/helmet checks officially - ie, they just walk around transition and make sure things are in order.

Can't, it's too late. I think you could only do that up to 2 weeks before. Besides, I'm not in the shape for that right now.

Hi Guys!  I have a place at Lake Anna and just spent the week there with my kids on Spring Break.  I swam one day.. the water was 57 in my cove.  Thanks to the lousy whether this week, there was no improvement in water temp.  The temp at Lake Anna Marina ranged from 58.5 to 60.2 all week.   I was there this morning fishing along the dam and the temp was 59.7.  Pray for lots of sun this week.... although it doesn't look good except for race day.

This is my first tri.... I'm in for the Saturday.  I have to admit though... that freakin' water was cold... I had my full 3mm wet suit on, but the water on my head still made for wanting to take short quick breaths.  I'm resigned to taking my time in the water and looking at getting a hood this week.  Anyone know if there's a minimum to water temp for the event?

 Thanks!

The water is warmer than it has been in year's past when having tris this time of year at LA.  Good luck!
