Pre-race routine:

Nice to have a later start than the crack of dawn typical Tri. Rode down to the trail with Kirk and Heather.
Event warmup:

Hopped on the trainer for only about 10-15 minutes with a few hard effort spin ups. Rode down the trail a bit to ensure gearing was working correctly and set up in the right gear to start. I made it to the start line just in time for my start.

Comments:

Started out a bit hard with HR into the 190's. Pulled it back to maintain a cadence around 90 and HR near threshold at 184ish. I caught two people on the way out and three on the way back in. This was my first time trial, so I had a lot of fun.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up a bit more and wear a watch so that I know when I should go up for the start. Looking back, I think I could have pushed some of those sections harder, but there's always next year.
Post race
Warm down:

Rode down the trail a couple of minutes and then came back. Followed with a base run on the trail.
