Total Time = 1h 00m 59s
Overall Rank = 401/15271
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 47/868
Pre-race routine:

Parked at Aloha Stadium at 5:10 am and took the bus downtown and arrived around 5:30 am. I used the porta pottie twice and just relaxed until they moved us out on to Nimitz at 6:20 am.
Event warmup:

Stretched (limited since they moved us out onto Nimitz so early).
Run
  • 1h 00m 59s
  • 8.15 miles
  • 07m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. I did stop to a fast walk at the second drink station to take a gel pack. Would have been closer to that 1 hr goal if I hadn't!
What would you do differently?:

Work on the drink/gel/run ability.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, banana and walked. After a little walk, I sat and stretched for about 15 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Age...lack of speed workouts...achiles problem the week before.

Event comments:

A good race. I do wish people would stage properly though. I was within 20 yards of the start line with the quick runners and I still had a threesome of 60 yr old walkers staged in front of me that I (and hundreds of others) had to dodge around. Still a good race and I will continue to compete in it every year I am here.

Good run. I agree with you on the proper staging. Makes a world of difference not having to dodge people strolling thru the start.

I know you didn't make your goal but dang!  One minute???  I hope you cut yourself some slack, Sam!  Awesome job!  Yeah, staging is not one the races strong suites, is it?
