Hmmm...I'll have to look into it. I was wondering if they weighed you lol My luck, I'd be 149 that day haha

Funny you should say that...because I did a 5k last spring and registered as an Athena, but their minimum weight cut-off was 140lbs for women. I weighed in that morning at 145. So some races might have different minimums for their Athena/Clydesdale divisions other than the norm of 150 & 200.

So what is the draw here to register as an Athena or Clydesdale? Just the opportunity to place higher? As slow as I am, it won't matter much either way lol

Only thing to think about is if they have a separate clyde/athena wave and when that wave starts compared to your normal age group.  I'm a clyde, but based on where my age group starts (M35-39), judging by the races that I have seen, the clyde/athena wave starts way in back.  No thanks!  M35-39 usually starts much more towards the front and since I'm generally a MOP'er for my age group, I have no desire to weave my way through numerous BOP'ers from other age groups.  No offense intended, but thats just not how I want to go.

I just turned 40....am 5'9 and bounce between 185-195...of course I'd love to be 165 by the end of summer, but I have been saying that for over 20 years so I guess it may not happen!  <<I also atribute at least ten pounds to boobs.  >>  I hate BMI, as I come up as obese every time.  I can run fast and far, bike long and up many hills, and swim for miles.....I always joke that I am faster than I look--years of weight training in my adolescence left me with very strong  legs and arms....adding bulk but providing me with a heck of an engine.  Just the other day a mom at preschool who is probably 50 pounds lighter than me said "you look so fit!" and whined that she can't even jog around the block.  Things like this make me very happy...I know I am in great shape--my BP and cholesterol are excellent, and my first oly was under 3 hours.  I am hoping to do my first HIM by the end of summer, and was recently selected as a team member of the Seattle LUNA Chix tri team, even though I am older and bigger than everyone else on it!  Yay, Athenas!

I'm 43 years old, 6'1" tall and weight 250 lbs.

That puts my BMI at 33.2

Getting my bodyfat % measured Feb 26th, hydrostatically .... but 1 year ago I weighed 313 lbs, then started tri training.

About 2 years ago I had 329 total cholesterol, 689 triglycerides, 39 HDL, 93 LDL, avg BP around 145/90, A1C levels of 10.9 (diabetic),  and no idea what my RHR was.

Now, total cholesterol is 124, triglycerides 38, HDL 68, LDL 38, avg BP around 120/65 ... and a RHR of 50, and A1C level of 5.4 (well below average or normal).

Have completed 2 sprints and signed up for a HIM this Sept ... last run did 10 miles, bike for 25 miles, swim 1.5 miles ...  when people see me and hear that I weight 250 lbs, yet hear what I'm able to do and my health stats ... they are pretty surprised.

I am 43, 253 lbs, as of this morning.  I have lost 35 since 1/1 of this year and plan to finish this season as an AG'er.  My last physical, my HR, BP and cholesterol were well within normal range.  I have broader shoulders and hips so i hide my weight better than some, but I want to be a good MOB'er not Bop.  My first 2 races of hte year will be as a clyde, but not after that.  My BMI is 36 down from 42(not that it matters) and my RhR is 46(and dropping) down from 65.

You must have lost weight over the summer, because when I met you last August I would have never guessed your weight at 145.  You looked great!

I'm 42, about 30 Lbs overweight and a BMI of 30 but

Blood pressure is 120ish over 70ish every morning
Resting HR is generally between 45 and 50

I went to a BMI of 25 at one point. My BP went to 97/40 and all I could think was "Karen Carpenter" so I decided I'd rather be a little chubbier and have a 120/70 BP

A Karen Carpenter BMI is more like 5 with a BP of 0/0.  Wink

I was well on my way. I was about 20 pounds lighter than I am now but that is NOT a healthy BP. I'll get back down there but I'll do it gradually.

Then again, if I don't, I'm not all that upset with being this size either

When we met in August, I probably WAS lighter than 145. I think the day before my OLY, I weighed in at 135lbs....so yeah, 10lbs. Needless to say, I quickly packed on that 10 + 5 more...LOL! And now it won't leave...grrrrr!! I'm not even sure I can fit into my wetsuit...EEKS!!

I thought I'd play and add my numbers.   Not sure if I'm surprisingly fit or even fit.  I feel like I have a long way to go to get where I was 10 years ago, but............

40 years old - 6'7" - 236lbs - BMI 26.6

Resting Heart Rate -51

Cholesterol <100

BP - 125/65

The last brick time trial I did at home was 12 mile/ 5k.  Overall time was 1:01:03.  19.1 mph and 7:01/mile.  That was with only 2 months of riding after an eight year lay off.  So I still have lots of work to do in the saddle.  With that being said, I am going in for ACL replacement next week.  So my 1st triathlon season since 1999 is pretty much shot.

I coach a 12 and under softball team, and I run all over the place with the girls.  I love it when the parents who are 5-10 years younger than I am, say they wish they were young too so they could run around as much as I do with the kids.  So, maybe I am fit compared the average American, but not so much when compared to the average trigeek.

I have an HDL (good cholesterol) above 70. (should be above 60)

My LDL (bad cholesterol) is below 30. (should be below 70 I believe)

BP: 120/70: Cholesterol = 130 (really low)

Last time I checked I was about 240lbs and at 5'8 my BMI is somewhere crazy like 34-35. BUT, I can out run, bike, swim et.al all my thin AND overweight friends. Even if I AM still slow.

But I'm about 75lbs overweight but just amazed myself and ran 10 flipping miles sunday. I'm still in awe at myself.

After seeing my numbers this was my doctor's comment:

Do you eat meat??! That just means your fat is under your skin, you can lose that."

<----Surprised  um. ok.

If you're training for triathlons, you're probably fit for your size, age and BMI. ;-)

I found that my BMI was usually a few points higher than my hydrostatic BF measurements. I'm lucky to have a hydrostatic measurement at the local club. It's costs extra to do... but I buy a package and have it done every three months or so.

HR is good. Numbers are good.

I find that keeping the weight off is important for my KNEEs. If I'm going to keep the knees healthy, I have to keep the weight down. :-p

45 yo, 6'3", 255-205-235-215. Shooting for 200 to 205 by CA HIM.

Cheers!

Well at 34 years old, 5' 10" and 265 pounds I have raced two full marys, two half marrys, two 25k's and many 5 and 10K's, have also done 3 sprint tri's.

I shock people every day when I bust out a 7 minute run mile, 20+ mph on the bike or a 1:30 100 meter swim. It's a lot of fun for me but I sure would like to lose the weight and be even faster.

I'm 6'3" and I'm at 240lbs. Just recently lost about 10lbs. in a month. Working my butt off now to lose as much excess weight as possible but doing it properly. I've added Yoga, Plyometrics and some strength training to my workouts. I'm already seeing a difference in my running with the addition of Yoga.

My fastest 5k time is 23 minutes and some change from a few years back. I weighed about 235 at that time. My fastest 10K is 54 minutes. My main goal for the 10K is to get under 50 minutes. My fastest half marathon is 1:57 and would love to get under 1:55 when I go up to Nashville for the Country Music Half in April. All of those times I got by switching over to the run/walk method.

I've always been a big guy, and I think if I wanted to get under 200lbs. I'd be very unhealthy, so the goal for me is to get around 220.

300+ lbs. 5'11" I can out ride and out pace about half if not more of my Tri group on the bike. I always get shocked looks of disbalief that I am over 300. I use to be a body builder. Everyone thinks that when I start riding that I will be back huffing and puffing and when I hang with the A group and come back ready to go for another lap, I love the looks I get. Runing is a whole other story. lol

Since we are glossing ourselves... I seem to be a big boy who runs well (6' 3" 230-265lbs). My first 5k ever was my fastest at 20:19. I weighed around 232. That was 10 years ago. Fast forward to more current events I did a 5k 8/2008 at a 7:20 pace at 245lbs. The only half marathon I ever ran in the fall of 2007 at around 240 lbs I did it in 1:50:05. I've been running on and off since I played soccer in high school. Cycling is new and comes easy and my best event of the three. Swimming sucks. I have won AG's in MI tris and have also got my a$$ kicked in the Clyde division. Depends who shows up. I am turning 40 this year and want to get my big back to that first 5k pace.

6ft and 265lbs.  BMI 35.9.  5k race time 27 min, 43 sec.

Last health analysis I had said that I was morbidly obese however my actual age of 32 was bettered by my health age of 27.  Don't recall the exact numbers, but good BP, good cholestrol, not diabetic or pre-diabetic.

 Okay with me.

Dude!  A sub 30-min 5K time at 265!  That's frickin' AMAZING!!!

Thanks.  Now if I can just figure out how to swim...

I am 6' and 245 lbs.  My resting pulse is around 50 and I can run a 10 K at sub 9 pace with medium effort.  I love being looked at before the races by people thinking ,"I wonder if he knows what he is getting into"

Lets see, i am 39 going on 40,  6' 1" plus or minus an inch, i am rollin at about 245lbs right now down from 260lbs, i have been battling High BP, and High Cholesterol for the last 5 years, both are on the way to being good ( i have my physical Monday, and am hoping to get off the medicine), my BMI is like 35-38, i carry all my weight in my middle, can hold and 18-20mph average on my bike, my PR was 28:42 in a 5k last year, and i have only been training for about 6 months. I can get to around 1:30 per hundred while swimming, when i swim alot, it slows quickly if i do not get to the pool. I play racquetball once a week and the little guys i play are amazed on how well a big guy moves and how i don't get tired chasing that little ball all over the court. When my doctor last he saw me was quite happy with the progress i have made.

i just tested my RHR and it was 66 BPM, everything else will have to wait till Monday.

I can tell you that running a 30 min 5k training run my HR hovers around 156 and after i walk for 2 mins my HR drops to 114 or so, not that that means anything.
