You all are amazing. Congrats for taking control of YOUR life and YOUR decisions.

I cannot imagine how hard it must be to have to be surrounded by people doing something you're trying to quit. I see it with food and spouses/kids, but smoking, wow.

Keep it up!

I also got to thinking that maybe the stink is why I never meet anyone at Tri's (or it could be my personality...no that can't be it).

Actually stood outside with a buddy of mine while he smoked yesterday. I enjoyed the smell, but didn't even want a puff. Today begins my third week, and my last week of eating whatever I want. I had popeyes and taco bell on the same day last week (the day of my annual physical), and it was delicious. I think I'm going to splurge on a chili cheese dog this week.

I've definitely noticed huge differences in my training. My legs have become the limiting factor in my runs, not my lungs. I am forcing myself to limit my miles so I don't build back up too fast. In the pool, I used to get tired before I got bored, and now I get bored before I get tired, which I suppose is a good thing. With this being a big swim week, I need to find ways to occupy my brain.

I've also noticed a huge difference in the amount of money I've been spending. It's much more than the 3-4 packs a week I'm not buying would suggest. Fewer trips to the convenience store must means fewer sodas, coffees, and packs of gum. I also I find I can hold on to a twenty longer than the change of a twenty from a pack of cigarettes. With the coming tax increases, cigarettes are going to be over $7 a pack here in Maryland by the end of the week.  How much are you folks saving per pack where you are?

Well Heathen I must agree with all your points but swimming and that is because I haven't been in the pool yet.  Tomorrow is a complete "real" month, March, plus a few Feb days so my eating starts back to decent on Wed.  I believe I am eating way too many carbs.

Money does last a bit longer even though I always bought cartons.  Packs here in Vegas are about $6 and they are talking about an increase in State tax.

It appears that my legs are my limiter on my runs as well,  but I am not sure since I am not pushing it and I am staying (trying to) within my run plan.

Isn't it considered really bad mojo to touch Lord Stanley's cup if you haven't won it?

Who is that? I can't tell if she is hot or not, you know, behind the pie plates she has on her nose.

Congrats to the former smokers!! A supportive environment certainly helps, and it looks like you've all found it here.

Congrats to all you guys and gals kicking the cigs. You are going to feel so much better. I have been off the smokes for almost two years and it really feels great. From what I gather you are around the month mark. That is awesome, stay strong, I am guessing your at the point where it is easier to fight the cravings but you still think about smoking fairly regularly. I remember when I got to about three months it was a lot easier. I found I would go long periods without thoughts of smokes. After that point time passes quickly and next you know your on a long run a year down the track and thinking how much better you now feel, you can still remember how much harder it was running as a smoker but now you think to yourself "nice one" and pick up the pace.

 go you winners

Well Aquaboy I know in my case I catch myself thinking about smoking more than I wish.  Not really tempting wise,  but remembering "This is when I would be smoking a month ago".  Thanks for the words because they all mean a lot.

Started week 4 today. This was the day I was supposed to start watching what I eat, and last week I made sure to cover all the bases with a 3-meat stromboli, a chili cheese dog, a donut and anything else I could think of that I will want to limit. I've already

I have continued to hang out with current smokers, but I am not tempted by their cigarettes. Baseball started again this weekend, and the pre- and post-game cigarettes that I wasn't having this weekend were the most painful non-cigarettes I've had. I've had a couple of smoking dreams, but I don't know if I should count that as cheating; the dream-nicotine was delicious, though.

Keep it up, everyone. Stay strong!

Nah, you can go with awesome. You are cured of the physical addiction, the only thing you will have to deal with now is the mental side and if you smoke again we all get to call you a woosy and send you pink tutus.

Well gang It has been 5 months of smoke free living so far....Yipppeeee!  Haven't lost the 8-10 pounds I gained yet,  but I have got to assume that it will go away at some point (It better dang it).  Only thing weird that happened was lst week where I dreamed I smoked 6 packs of smokes and was riding my bike to get the seventh and I thought to myself "What am I doing I don't smoke anymore?" and I woke up and made sure I wasn't smoking...LOL.

Have a great day and thanks for all your support.

Good job!  Way to stay with it.  I'm still there with you so far.  Today is day 144 of not smoking.  I don't even think about it or have cravings at all, not even when drinking.  I don't even like being around someone when they are smoking, because it stinks.

How is everyone else doing?  Triaya?

Just checking in to see how those others you have also quit smoking are doing?

Today is day 302 and can honestly say i don't think about or even want to be around someone smoking.  I celebrated my 300th day with a nice easy 13 mile run and then relaxed and finished reading "Born to Run".  Great book!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm so proud of you. Glad the thread revived, too, and I too wonder how everyone is.

I wound up relapsing during a traumatic time. However, I have now once again chosen to breathe freely. Not counting days, just cherishing each day, although I think that was in early-mid November.

I have to be neutral about others smoking. I live in a place where the VAST MAJORITY of people smoke, and you can smoke anywhere. If I couldn't be around smoking, I would have to lock myself in my air conditioned bedroom and not see anybody. I'm still hoping that somewhere on this island there is a nice single straight reasonably young guy who doesn't smoke. But I haven't found him yet.
