Overall Rank = 1916/2044
Age Group = M3039
Age Group Rank = 249/255
Pre-race routine:

Got dropped off around 9am, went inside to meet up with my teammates. Headed outside around 9:30 for a group picture, then went back inside for a few minutes before heading over to the starting line.
Event warmup:

No real warmup, planned on taking it easy for the first mile or two.
Run
  • 2h 26m 16s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good for the first several miles. At mile 5 I ate a Hammer Gel (Apple Cinnamon) but my mile 6 I could tell that it wasn't going to agree with me. Shuffled along until mile 10, where thankfully there was a porta-potty. Headed back out for the last 5k, but my legs were really tight to I struggled more than I had expected to. Because of my upset stomach I didn't drink enough, so I was starting to get a bit of cramping in my legs.

During the run I also discovered that the rain jacket (which I had bought the day before expecting rain) didn't breathe at all, so I was really steaming up inside the jacket. Then once it started raining and it got a bit colder, I froze.
What would you do differently?:

Stay away from Hammer Apple Cinnamon Gel! Other flavors seem to work fine for me. And don't wear something that you bought the day before and haven't run in before! Stupid mistakes, I should know better at this point.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Upset stomach, lack of miles in my legs.

Event comments:

Given how crappy I felt I guess I should be okay with an 11:10 pace, but I'm still frustrated with how slow my running is. Training for the Providence Marathon I'm not sure that it's going to get much faster, but perhaps after that I can focus on going faster instead of going further.

rain gear usually don't breathe well.  Sorry you weren't feeling good during the run.  But good job anyway.  Good to see you.

We had the exact same time, but I didn't stop for the porta potty.  MAV was raving about the apple cinn. gel while we were running.  She said it tastes like a McD's apple pie.  I remember thinking that probably wouldn't be the most appetizing flavor while running.  Oh well, at least you crossed the finish line.  Good job.

Good job on getting it done!  Your pace would have still left me in the dust

don't be too hard on yourself, we all make mistakes more than once (at least I do )

Hope you had a good time overall!

Good job finishing, Scott.  As you said, stick to the vanilla and choco in the future... the apple pie flavor just doesn't seem to be worth it...

I love apple cinnamon gel...it's all the other flavors I can't stomach!  Nice job anyway in less than ideal conditions.  It was good to hang out with you again!

hey ist race of season you are allowed to 'forget" things like don't try out new flavors/nutrition or clothes...that way when the 'real" season hits you have it all dialed in. sorry to not be able to join the BT posse this weekend- I'm guessing y'all had a great time.

you raced. that alone is an accomplishment!good job

I had an apple cinammon gel before the race and it always reminds me of McDonald's Hot Apple pie. Sorry it didn't sit well with you.

Great race..fun to see you!

2009 will be great~
