Subject: Archived Tri results from the 80's and 90's???

So last year I made a come back to the sport of tri's.  I did 2 sprints.

Youngstown Adult Tri

Fat Rabbit Sripnt Tri

I wanted to compare where I am now to where I was back when (and be nostalgic)...

I did 2 or 3 Olympic tris between 85 and 87 (in Akron- Bud Light series I am pretty sure)These were so much fun but I remember actually changing out of my swimsuit and drying off before getting into fresh clothes -it had to have been a 5 minute transition Laughing

and one sprint tri  around 87 in the Youngstown Ohio area.

I did one sprint around 89 at OSU.

While not training in 98 or 99 I jumped into a sprint at Alum Creek because a friend was doing it. I am pretty sure it was Wendy's.  <-- I managed to get kicked HARD in the jaw and had a flat tire with no repair kit and 6 miles left to ride This did not encourage me to get back in the sport but I did finish.

I can't find results to any of these.  Does anyone know of any websites that archive these?  Anyone personally have results from back then?

If you have anything searchable Look for me Brue Hoyt -sometimes misspelled Bruce Hoyt

I used to race a lot from '87 to '95. As you may remember back then you'd have to wait for a post card to come in the mail for your official results. I doubt if many of those results are archived because that was pre-Internet and most of the races that I did no longer exist.

You might check athlinks.com . They do have one race I did in 1997 after two years of recovery from a bike wreck but that's the only old one of mine they have.

I tried digging around for results from the Chicago Sun Times oly I did back in 89 and came up empty handed, even looking up results for the Bud Light series from 87 or 88 in Chicago and came up empty handed.

Newspaper!  Great idea.  I just checked the Columbus Dispatch.  They have an archived article for Wendy's tri in 98.  You have to pay per article for archives but the main library will have it for free.   Of course my other races wer Akron/Youngstown.  I am not driving to get results.

I looked through athlinks -another good suggestion but came up blank.

Google it. I've found some race results from the 90's that I did on archived sites in japan and switzerland (US races). It might take 20+ pages of google results, but I've found some that way. Never had luck with USTS races though.

I have google and yahood til my head is nodding off - i have found running races back to 99 but no tris.

I found a good archive sight

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/1/index.shtml

but not the races I am looking for  -maybe someone here can use it.  Goes back to the mid 90's  but it is sparse until 99.

I found my results! Not in any publication - they were in a file folder here at home.

I did these when I was younger than I thought.

 1st at age 16 in 1984 - 2nd at age 16 in 1984 - 3rd at age 17 in 1985.

they weree longer than sprints and shorter than olympic distance.

I had been swimming competitively since age 12.  I would get out of the water in the first few people.

I road my considerably taller brother's steel Schwinn Varsity with basket clips.  I got past by a lot of people.

The first year I was sucking wind  in the run.  I had only started running that year. The second one in the first year I got massive cramps on the run - it was HOT and I was under hydrated.

the distances and  times are :

Canton Bud Light Jun 9, 1984 2:06:00

(splits are approximate)

1000m (.6 mile) ows  16:00 includes T1

33k (20.5mile) bike 1:05:00 includes T2

10k (6.2 mile)  run 45:00

Shenango Triathlon Aug 18, 1984 2:06:07

1000m (.6 mile) ows  15:56

33k (20.5mile) bike 1:00:05 (includes T1)

10k (6.2 mile)  run 50:06 (includes T2) dehydrated /cramps

Canton Bud Light Jun 8, 1985 2:18:13

1000m (.6 mile) ows  13:25

34k (21.1mile) bike 1:25:30 (bike include both transitions)

10k (6.2 mile)  run 40:18

My bike time was MUCH slower than the previous year - it includes both transitions and an extra .6 miles.  I also probably pushed too hard on the swim.

My transitions for these invovled wrapping a towel around me, taking off my swim suit, putting on my biking shorts, putting on a shirt, rinsing and drying my feet, putting on socks and shoes I tied, putting on sunglasses and just puttsing too long.  I would guess I spent 4 minutes in T1 and a full minute in T2 even though I didn't change shoes.

My next Tri was somewhere around 1999.  I met a guy who said he was doing Wendy's at Alum Creek.  I figured - Why Not (even though it had been 10 years since I had done any training.

I haven't found the results for it but they are fairly irrelevant.

I did the Sprint.

I got kicked in the face HARD on the swim.  I still got out toward the beginning of the pack.

I used my old 4 minute routine at T1

I jumped on a nice newish Raleigh road bike (nice for a guy 4 inches taller than me.) I bought from a friend.  I got a flat tire with about 5 or 6 miles to go. -No repair kit, CO2 -nothin.

I ran pushing the bike to T2.  I was past by some kids, seniors, Huffy's and Murrays.  My wife encouraged me to see how many people I could pass on the 5k.  I didn't worry about getting out of T2 fast.  i took a good drink and set out to pass 50 peopl.

It was actually very easy to pass 50 people because by the time I started the run even the casual tri enthusiastes had past me on the bike.

When I gaot home and went to eat some fresh baked peanut butter cookies I was reminded of the kick to the face.

I wanted to add my pacing and make a correction but it was past the half hour edit zone:

Canton Bud Light Jun 9, 1984 2:06:00  <---This was the best I would do until I was 40 years old.

(splits are approximate)

1000m (.6 mile) ows  16:00 includes T1 ~1:15/100yds

33k (20.5mile) bike 1:05:00 ~19.5mph

10k (6.2 mile)  run 45:00 ~7:15/mile

Shenango Triathlon Aug 18, 1984 2:06:07

1000m (.6 mile) ows  15:56 (includes T1) ~1:15/100yds

25k (15.5mile) bike 1:00:05  ~ 14.3 mph Really SLOWWW

10k (6.2 mile)  run 50:06 (includes T2) dehydrated /cramps ~7:53/mile  even Slowererer

Canton Bud Light Jun 8, 1985 2:18:13

1000m (.6 mile) ows  13:25 ~1:22/100yds

34k (21.1mile) bike 1:25:30 (bike includes both transitions) ~15.75 mph SLOWWWWW

10k (6.2 mile)  run 40:18 ~6:29/mile

Any body else have historic Tri results?????
