Tri to Help
80F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 01m
Overall Rank = 8/28
Age Group = Male
Age Group Rank = 8/28
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and tried to just get some breakfast and relax. Drove up to the gym with the ex-gf and just sorta relaxed before hand.
Event warmup:

Hung out and listened to some music and chatted with friends
Swim
  • 10m
  • 575 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good swim, but maybe could have done more. Friend of mine was keeping track of our laps and with probably 2 mins left she yelled " little more then a minute" so I tired to fly up and back and once I hit the wall she goes "little less then a minute".
Well needless to say I was DEAD, I tired to keep pushing it but couldn't muster anything more. I was dead! But good swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure I did a PR for that time and also did 25m more then I've ever done before.
Transition 1
  • 10m
Comments:

Had 10 minutes to dry off and get up to the spin bikes and get moving.
What would you do differently?:

Dry off as fast as possible and get moving. Maybe also get my breathing under control
Bike
  • 30m
  • 9.75 miles
  • 19.50 mile/hr
Comments:

Good trainer ride. Sweated my butt off which might have been the problem on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Spin faster or cover more distance. The top guys did 10 miles. I should have covered more distance. I would have placed top 5 if I did that.
Transition 2
  • 05m
Comments:

Tried to get some fluids in me, stretch and get focused for the run. Not much time to tell you!
What would you do differently?:

Calm down faster!
Run
  • 20m
  • 2.26 miles
  • 08m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

Started out great. Bumped up the pace to around 7.. 7.2 and did the first .6 of a mile fine. Then all of a sudden I could feel my heart rate just sky rocket. I tried to focus and control it but nothing worked. I quickly took my run down to a walk and my friends and Ashley (ex-gf) noticed. I tried to control everything and get back into it. I bumped it up to around 6.5 and stayed there. Then with two minutes left I kicked it up to around 7.8... then at a minute left I kicked it up to 8.5. Needless to say at the end I wasn't happy and totally exhausted.
What would you do differently?:

Do a brick every now and then. But happy with the results at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried to just cool down and change and get on my way since the day was 1/2 way shot. Went to get some food and relaxed.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not sure totally happy with the result

Event comments:

Glad I did this race and will do it again next year as a little tune up.

Nice job CJ and a good start to the year!!   I did an indoor tri last year and my breathing and HR were wacky on the treadmill too.

yeah the runs on indoor tris are always SO difficult. I don't know anyone who has had a strong run on a treadmill.

Lol... yeah well the padding in the shorts makes my butt look good.

Girl next to me in the white T is the ex-gf... in the red behind us in the spinning pic is my best Buddy.

Time to focus on the next race!
