Subject: Tires

Hi there,

I am planning to replace the stock tires that came with my road bike. I would like something decent but certainly don't need the high end tire (whatever that is). I have clinchers.  I have a few friends that have tires that are puncture resistant. I have thought about those and wonder what people think. I am sure that they are heavier but in the scheme of things is there that much of a difference?

This will be my second season doing tris. My best event is by far the bike  but since my run is so poor I won't ever be in the top three.

I know that these are personal preferences but I would love to hear what people think as most sales people will try to get me to buy whatever they have in stock.

Thanks so much,

Kathleen

They are not cheap, but I really like Michelin Pro3 Race tires. They are fast, feel great, and are pretty good at reducing punctures. If you are interested, I have a pair of Pro2 Races with under 200 miles on them I would be willing to part with for a good price.

The beginning and end on tires is: ProBikeKit.com

Prices are usually 50% or less of what you will find stateside. Add in free shipping and they can't be beat. Because they are so cheap they often are out of stock so you may have to be patient, they have a service for out of stock where they will email you when it comes back in.

Examples, my race tyres (love the english, tyres, cracks me up) are the ProRace3s, cost about $34 last summer, my training tires are Conti Gatorskins, the light folding ones, $19.

If you can find a better deal, let us know.

I never have flats with my gatorskins and the PR3s are supoosed to be some of most efficient tyres out there.

Happy rolling....

I am using the Continental Grand Prix 4000s.  They work fine for training and racing and are highly regarded.  There may be better race tires out there but if you want a dual purpose tire, these are great.  Great durability, no flats so far.

Continental is the best for training and racing, in my opinion. I have had significant less flats than my training buddies. Good solid tires, worth the investment. They will last.

I really like my Continentals, but I still got a flat after riding thru a tumbleweed -- now I know.

Thank you for your comments. I really appreciate it.

Someone in the bike biz suggested the  Fortezza TriComp’s . Does anyone have a thought about these?   I see that they are more expensive then the ones mentioned here. I have never heard these mentioned so I thought I would ask.

Thanks again everybody for all your help.

Kathleen
